The 2008 AL MVP race was a very “close” race. People were wondering if K-Rod, A-Rod, Justin Morneau, Kevin Youkilis or Dustin Pedroia would win. It turns out that it wasn’t even close in the voting. Pedroia received 16 1st place votes, 6 2nd place, 4 3rd place and 1 4th place vote. He earned 317 points with his next competitor was at 257 points. It is the first time since 1995 since a Red Sox player won the MVP when Mo Vaughn won it. Also, 1959 was the last time a 2nd baseman won the MVP. With 213 hits, Pedroia tied Ichiro Suzuki for the Major League lead.

Pedroia led the majors with 54 doubles and led the AL in runs with 118 and multihit games with 61. Backed by a .326 average, Pedroia lost the batting title by just four points to Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer. Pedroia finished fourth in total bases with 322 and seventh in extra-base hits at 73. Dustin also chipped in with power (17 homers, 83 RBIs) and speed (20 stolen bases).

He deserves it even though everyone seems to think that A-Rod is actually better. Apparently he isn’t and this award proves it. Congratulations Dustin Pedroia!!

My friend Sonya and I went to dinner at Chili’s tonight and decided to go to the Barnes and Noble next door. I started to walk up the escalator while talking to Sonya and realized that I wasn’t going anywhere. When I looked, the escalator that normally goes up was now facing the other way.

I asked why it was changed and they told me that due to the fact that it takes more power for an escalator to go up then down. The “up” escalator motor was having issues and they needed to switch it. However, I realized that it must have been awhile since I was in that B&N because it has been like that for about 6 months.

It was a funny situation that I went through today and thought I would share it.

I have been very busy lately trying to move everything out of my childhood house because we sold it. You never really miss something until it is gone and in the past few months, I have experienced that on many occasions. However, before we “turned the keys over”, I took some pictures to remember it by. Of course there is nothing in the house, but at least it is something.

This is a view from the outside of the house. This used to be a ranch style house, but when I was 2 1/2, my father completed the second floor and our bedrooms moved upstairs.

For most of my life, I have lived at house number 75 (except for college). There are holes around the numbers because of Christmas time, we would hang lights all around and those were from the staple gun.

The living room is where we would have Christmas morning and our Christmas tree to the left of the fireplace.

Every Christmas growing up, my sister’s and I would walk down the stairs from our rooms and stand on the steps while my mother took a picture of us. It was a tradition that I will miss very much even though we haven’t done it in years.

The next two pictures are of my room growing up. My room didn’t originally have cable TV, but I was bored one day while my mother was at work and I climbed out my window and ran cable into my room. The cable that is plugged in is actually from my sister’s room which a professional added. When he was setting up her cable, he said the job looked professionally done.

In our basement, there was a wall that we wrote on growing up. It started with my sister and her friends and then my friends and I took over. It was a very memorable wall for me and I had to take pictures of it.

Since there was already writing on the wall, my sister’s and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to write a little more. My sister, Sharon, wrote the following

(In a fun way) The new family who bought our house are Jewish and we wanted to let them know that we will always remember Christmas in our house.

We figured that the new owners would replace the wall we wrote on, so we wrote in a hidden area in my father’s workbench area.

This was where all my father’s tools were and he spent a lot of time down here because he loved working on the house.

Finally, this was our upstairs bathroom. I picked this picture to describe because I found a picture (second picture) of my father and I when I was younger and we were both shaving. I wasn’t actually shaving, but it was a memorable time spending with my dad.

At some point, I will go through more pictures and blog them.

The other day, I started re-watching “On The Lot” videos and “Dough: The Musical” reminded me a lot of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog“. Shorter and with less of a story line, but still really good.

I saw this a while ago, but never got around to blogging it. It is quite easy to figure out what number is what because of the standard clock, but it is interesting to figure out. Some of the calculations are very easy like 6×2 or sqrt of 4, but others are harder, 52 - x² + x = 10. It would be a good gift to get as a grab item. Could Barack Obama figure out a way to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and promote Armenian security by seeking an end to the Turkish and Azerbaijani blockades.

The Armenian government will seek help from the United States if it is pressured to give up Azerbaijani territories without obtaining guarantees that the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians will be able to hold a referendum on their future status.

Some experts in Azerbaijan and Armenia believe that Russia might try to secure a substantial military presence in the conflict zone as part of the future peacekeeping force that is to be deployed once a peace agreement is signed. Azerbaijan will most probably seek support from the United States in ensuring that Russian troops do not return to Azerbaijan.

The Georgian experience has demonstrated that once they come, they are unlikely to leave peacefully.

Peace is a good thing between all countries and if Obama can resolve this conflict through politics and not war, I believe that other countries will follow and hopefully find some peace for us Americans. This is something that Obama stated to the Armenian-American community and I believe that he will follow through.

I have lived in the Greater Boston area my entire life and have been to Logan many times for my flights, friends and family flights and just driving by. For some reason, I never knew the full name of Logan was actually “General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport“.

Edward L. Logan was born in Boston on 20 January 1875. Except while on active duty, he was a life-long resident of South Boston. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1893, where he received his first military training in the cadet corps, and from Harvard in 1897.

He mustered out in November 1898 and entered Harvard Law School while remaining sergeant major of the 9th Infantry. He graduated in June 1901 and was also appointed as 2d Lieutenant in Company A, 9th Infantry, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia (later Massachusetts National Guard). Logan was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1903 and in October 1908 he took command of Company A as a captain.

During and after service in the National Guard he was active in civic, veterans, and political posts. He was the first state commander of the American Legion, President of the National Guard Association, Boston city councilor, representative and senator in the Massachusetts General Court, as well as president of a number of charitable institutions. He was one of Boston’s leading citizens as was nationally known for his role in veterans and military affairs.

I like the history behind names and places because then it is not just another place or thing, it has a past. It has a story that can be told as a tidbit during a conversation. History can sometimes be really interesting.

Congratulations George Bush, you raised the bar on presidential losers. Since the rating system was created 60 years ago, no president has been able to gain more of the public’s hatred than you.

The latest polls show George Bush with over a 70% disapproval rating making his approval rating below 30%. He should be considered the worst president in the United States history. US News claimed James Buchanan is the worst president in history, but since the country has about 285 million more people than it did when he was president, I would have to say that James Buchanan is up at the top for causing the Civil War, but many historians say that George Bush will go down as the worst president in US history.

The Red Sox have requested to host the 2012 All-Star game because it will be the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. Other teams (fans) have issues with the Red Sox getting another All Star game in a short amount of time. The last time Fenway hosted an All-Star game was in 1999, 13 years from 2012. I understand other teams want their chance to host it, but it is not just another year. It is the 100th anniversary of Fenway which is the oldest active ballpark in the country. I think that MLB should give them a high priority for the 2012 All-Star Game.

Time can change everything but some things will always remain the same and I’m not talking about Fenway. I am talking about when a fan of a game walks into “that” (any) park and something comes over them. It is something about that place that makes me feel like a kid again. Back to when my father used to take me to baseball games and it was so magical. I lost out on that 4 months ago today when he passed away of cancer (Red Sox have been partnered with the Jimmy Fund since 1953). 100 years is not just another number, it is how there are some memories that can be passed along through generations.

I have only lived in one house my entire life up until now. Granted, I went off to college for 5 years, but besides that, I have only lived in one house. Today we completely moved out of my old house and it is very weird. It was one thing to move out of my college apartment, but moving out of a house after living in it for 24 years. I have so many memories in that house that it would take me a very long time to compile a list of all of them.

I might post some pictures of the house if I can find them.

After 1 1/2 years using Verizon FIOS, my router never had any issues. However, I am moving completely out of my house tomorrow and it couldn’t have waited one more day to break.

After his second full season with the Red Sox, the 2nd baseman Dustin Pedroia has earned himself Rookie of the Year last year, won a gold glove this year and next week, he is looking for the American League MVP award.

Last year, Youk won the gold glove last year, but this year, Rays first baseman Carlos Pena won it this year. Pedroia definitely deserves the Gold Glove because of how amazing he played this year. He prides himself on his defense and ranked #1 in all categories in the AL.

Hopefully next week, they announce that he is the AL MVP!

After a very great night for this country, I found out that Michael Crichton (Jurrasic Park and ER) passed away from cancer that he kept private. He was a great story teller and was able to make the reader/viewer feel like they are actually a part of the story. I am very sad that Michael Crichton passed away because his movies/tv shows/novels were awesome and he will be missed. I have been watching ER since it premiered in 1994 and they are on their last season this year.

In December 1994, he achieved the unique distinction of having the #1 movie (Jurassic Park), the #1 TV show (ER), and the #1 book (Disclosure).

Verizon Fios just launched a new feature that I requested over a year ago. I am not saying that I was the only one to suggest it, but I was at least one of them.

Verizon now allows customers to manage their DVR from anywhere there is internet access. This is an amazing feature because it will allow “average” customers (not tech savvy) to go online and add/delete from the DVR while at work or on the road.

For example: Let’s say that you leave for work in the morning and at noon you find out that the President is going to be delivering a speech in a breaking news situation. You can go online and add that as one of your scheduled recordings. Don’t have room, delete other items to make space. I am not sure if it is all customers right now or just the ones with the Home Media Center plan. They might roll it out to all DVRs if the community responds well to the feature.

This is an exciting feature that I think many will like if it is marketed properly. I would want a summary of the encryption it will run and be able to see a certificate. If they can fully answer that question, I do not see a single negative aspect of this feature. Isn’t technology awesome that you can remotely control your DVR when you are nowhere near your TV. I knew it was possible, but I wasn’t sure how others would perceive it. Only time will tell if it will be available to all customers which I really hope they do.

Barack Obama, United States President-Elect, will be addressing the nation in a few minutes and it should be one of the biggest speeches in American history. I haven’t had many happy days in the last few months, but this is a very happy day for me and most of the country. It is the first time in US history that an African American will be President of the United States.

Obama finally proved that it doesn’t matter who you are, what you believe, the United States of America proved that you can do anything you put your mind to. Anything by anyone. Change is finally here for this country and that change is Barack Obama.

Obama congratulated John McCain and Sarah Palin on a great campaign and he thanked McCain for his service. He talked about his family, his wife, kids and his recently late grandmother who raised him. He made sure that his campaign staff got their time in the spotlight.

The road to a better America will take a while to fix, but it can be done. He calls on all Americans to work together and make the country better. He tried to figure out a way to get to those who didn’t vote for him and unite as one country.

His speech was amazing and I truly believe that he will be an excellent President and find a way to make other countries see a different America and a different time in our life.

UPDATE:

John McCain addressed his supporters tonight and told the country that we need to come together and be one country. Even though he said “my friends” a few times in his short speech, he was very polite about his loss and explaining that he wants to help the country in any way he can.

Thank you John McCain for serving our country, but the American people believe that Barack Obama will be a better president with the economy the way it is.

It should be official, Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States. It is a very good day for me. I have been supporting Obama from the beginning and I took a lot of grief from people then, but now he will be inaugurated on January 20th, 2009. This country proved that we are can choose an African American president.

Welcome to a new view on the United States!

It is not 100% official yet, but there is a very good change that Barack Obama will become the next President of the United States. With the west coast, including California (55 votes), still voting, Barack Obama has past the 200 mark. If Obama takes the west coast like they believe he will, that will bring him to 279 votes.

I am not saying it is official yet, but it will make me very happy to address Barack Obama as President Obama.

One of the CNN corespondents told Larry King that the news room at a local station was getting calls saying that if you are a democrat, you don’t have to vote until November 5th. I think that is pretty low considering that messes with a person’s mind and some of those people might not vote until November 5th. I don’t want to get into the whole concept of, “if they are that ignorant, they shouldn’t be voting anyway”. If we have “Caution: Hot Coffee” on coffee lids, we obviously have people who can not comprehend HOT COFFEE. If you start calling people to tell them that they shouldn’t vote if they are democrat, that’s is breaking through a new level of low in politics.

I know there are people out there who should understand that election day is November 4th, but why do people have to stoop to that level where they are screwing up the election data. They are not convincing them to vote for McCain, they are telling them not to vote on election day. It is not right and I don’t think they should be doing it. I am not saying that because it is going against my candidate, I would feel the same exact way if Obama was making calls telling Republicans not to vote on November 4th. This system was put into place so that the people would decide. If somehow, a campaign, got other voters not go on November 4th, it would defeat the point of letting the people decide. Sabotaging a Presidential campaign is wrong and those who are making those calls, should be ashamed of their actions.

ELECTION DAY IS TODAY….NOVEMBER 4th FOR ALL AMERICANS

At midnight, (40ish minutes ago) the polls opened in a small village called Dixville Notch, NH. It is so small that the votes were counted and the results were announced within 20 minutes of opening. Since there are only 21 registered voters in the village, it is a very quick count.

Dixville Notch, NH has voted republican since 1972 and have dominated in those elections. However, this country truly wants change because they shocked the country by making the first vote to Barack Obama as 15-6. I think this will be a theme in this election, but I don’t want to get too excited until John McCain concedes to Barack Obama.

I am going to try to blog a bunch of articles today depending on how much I get to watch CNN. I will have a lot to say, I just hope I can keep up.

ESPN stated that if the Pittsburgh Stealers were to win on Monday Night Football, than Barack Obama would win. If the Washington Redskins won, than McCain would win. I don’t remember all the details of why they predicted it, but there was a correlation between the football game and the election.

I just hope it works this year.

Since I was laid off on Thursday afternoon, I have been trying to think of all of the skills that I have acquired while working at StudentCity. As I was going through my resume, I realized that I should get rid of some of my older content and replace it with updated data. A lot of people who I have seen have kept data on their resume that is old and do not update with their new “mad skillz” (Someone wrote that on their resume once).

I will be updating my resume and sending it out with my applications hoping to find something that I will enjoy as much as my last job.

Sarah Palin was prank called today by two kids claiming to be Nicolas Sarkozy. Enjoy!

After a very stressful day yesterday, I decided that I would go up to Plymouth to see some friends and gather my thoughts. So far, I got to hang out with Zach and Sara and play Guitar Hero: World Tour. I also went down to the Lucky Dog and have a few drinks and see my friend Steve. I went back to Vasken’s house and hung out while I added programs to my new laptop. I will be spending time with other friends and working on updating my resume.

I miss the Plymouth scene, but I don’t know if I could live here. Too far away from my family and Boston. However, I have a job possibility up here, so i don’t want to rule it out. It will be a good weekend that I can just relax and have fun.

There are certain things that I have got accustomed to over the past year while working for StudentCity.com. I loved my working environment, my co-workers, my responsibilities and the company itself. StudentCity is an amazing company with amazing people who give college students the experience that they deserve while on spring break. However, since the economy is horrible right now, a lot of parents can’t afford to send their son/daughter on spring break. Unfortunately for me, I was a casualty of this current economy.

The past few months have been very hard with losing my father to cancer, having to sell my childhood house and now losing my job to the economy, but there is a plan. Even though I am still having trouble believing it, I know that everything will work out. Not to be super religious, but God wouldn’t give me anything that I couldn’t handle. I will figure out my job situation and who knows, this job might even be better for my career in web development.

I am in no way mad at StudentCity for letting me go, but I am saddened by how much I am going to miss working there. I was at the company for a year and three months and loved every minute of it. If anyone reading this wants to go on spring break, go to StudentCity.com, book a trip and have the best spring break experience of your life. Congratulations to the 2008 World Series champions, Philadelphia Phillies. They played very well except for game 2 which they lost. The entire postseason was amazing, but I wish the Red Sox were the ones taking the trophy.

The Boston Celtics, 2008 NBA World Champions, raised their 17th banner tonight and got their rings. Out of all of the players, “the truth”, Paul Pierce was very emotional because he waited so long as a member of the Celtics without winning one. Last year, the Celtics went from being the worst team in the NBA to being ranked 1st in the season and win another NBA title. It shows how well this team worked together towards one goal.

The Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavilers 90-85 at the TD Banknorth Garden in
