Heading Back Up To Plymouth State For Homecoming 2008

Tomorrow morning, I am driving back up to Plymouth State once again for homecoming weekend. Since I am “on vacation” this week, I will get to spend two more days with old friends. (This was my vacation, but I got called in to help catch up, so I am only taking 2 days of it). I can’t wait to go up and see different people who I haven’t seen in months. The last time I was there with school in session was March and a lot has happened since then.

I have realized something interesting about leaving Plymouth State in May 2007. At first, I missed Plymouth a lot because of friends and my activities up there. However, I am really happy with my job now and even though I miss my friends and my activities, I don’t miss being in Plymouth. I am glad I live near the city (Boston) and get to go in very easily.

It will be good to get away for a couple of days. If you went to Plymouth, are going and are reading this, look for me this weekend.

People Wouldn’t Be Mean To Others, If They Only Knew…

Do you ever wonder why “people” (in general) treat others badly either offensively or defensively. Offensively is they make the first move causing the issue while the defensive player will only attack when attacked upon. This is a very interesting subject because depending on how you look at the situation, you can either react “hotheadedly” and get mad or take the time to figure out why a person either made you mad or got mad at you. I have seen people react about a situation in one scenario, change the parameters a little bit and that same person will react a completely different way.

For example: Let’s say you’re driving down the street and another car flies around you doing 30 mph over the speed limit in that area. Some will get mad and call him an asshole, while others might calmly process that it is not worth it to get mad. That is the obvious difference between reactions. However, put two different people in that situation and tell them prior to the experiment that someone was hit by a car and they were being taken to the hospital to save their life. If they only knew that vital information, they would understand why the person had caused the problem and they would change their opinion. The point is that until you know all the details, you should try to see the situation from a different angle…I try.

I guess this is just one of my psychology rants!

Woman Died While Watching TV, 42 Years Ago

“Hedviga Golik made herself a cup of tea and sat down to watch some television in her hometown of Zagreb, Croatia. Sadly, she died in her chair. This was in 1966. She was just found, 42 years later, in her time capsule mausoleum where she’s been sitting ever since. She never finished her tea.” - source.

They say that she were reported missing, but no one checked her apartment. I find that hard to believe since she would have needed to pay rent or the landlord would have come in sooner. I wonder if it was similar to a condo where you take out a loan and she paid it all off, no one would have checked I guess. I guess it is a unverified rumor going around the internet, either way it is a interesting (funny) story.

New American Ambassador To Armenia Arrived Recently

Posted at: 11:55 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: History and Mythology, Rants and Randomness

Last week, newly appointed Ambassor to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch arrived in Yerevan where she will command her post.

Armenian-American groups have been seeking to force the Bush administration to change its policy on the 1915 incidents, but Yovanovitch clearly adhered to the US line of refusing to label the incidents as “genocide” at her confirmation hearing in the Senate. Last year the White House withdrew its nomination of career diplomat Richard Hoagland after one lawmaker blocked it in an objection to that policy. The post had remained vacant for two years. Armenia, with the backing of its diaspora, claims that up to 1.5 million of its kin were slaughtered in orchestrated killings in 1915. Turkey rejects the claims, saying that 300,000 Armenians along with at least as many Turks died in civil strife that emerged when the Armenians took up arms for independence in eastern Anatolia.

Washington has had no full-time ambassador in Yerevan since May 2006 and has attached great importance to sending Yovanovitch there at a time of increasing Russian influence in the region and a worsening conflict with Iran over its alleged development of nuclear arms, officials said at the time.

The last ambassador was removed by George Bush because he openly called the “killings” a genocide. Bush is an idiot.

Family Yard Sale And "Spring" Cleaning All Day

Posted at: 11:15 pm by Timothy Haroutunian

Today, my mother, my sisters, my brother-in-laws and I had a yard sale to get rid of everything that we didn’t need since we are selling our house. We were up at 6:30am and it lasted until 4pm when we broke the yard sale down and transported all of what didn’t sell to the Salvation Army. We met some really nice people who enjoyed a lot of our old stuff. One girl loved everything about my sister’s old room, that she bought her dresser, mirrors, chest and plant. It was quite interesting to see how we got all of that to fit inside of their car.

After the yard sale was over, I went up to my room (still living at home until we sell the house so I can help my mom) and cleaned almost everything. I got rid of tons of junk that I kept over the years and what i brought home from college. I also made out pretty well at the yard sale myself. My brother-in-law brought over some of his stuff to sell and before we had any potential buyers, I went through and took out what I wanted. I got 3 DVDs, 3 PS2 games (just to have, my Wii is still the number 1 console) and a new stereo system. My old stereo system has some issues and wouldn’t connect to surround sound. At least I was able to get rid of a lot of my stuff so it will be easier when I move.

"Dunkin’ Donuts" Increase To 15,000+ Stores By 2016

Posted at: 11:16 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Rants and Randomness

Dunkin’ Donuts (America Runs on Dunkin) will be rolling out a large scale increase in stores to over 15,000 by 2016. The Massachusetts based company has been densly populated in the New England area, but compared to NE, the rest of the country has very few. They are trying to match Starbucks’ stores which everyone knows very well since they are on practically every street corner. The problem with Starbucks is that their coffee is too strong and too expensive for my tastes. When I do have coffee, I would prefer Dunks.

“Boston area” based DD will be taking over the world along with every Boston sports team this year. The Patriots are partnered with the DD to promote a new sandwich in NE. The Red Sox are going to the playoffs, the Celts are going to be sick again this year and the Bruins might have a good chance with Patrice Bergeron back from last year’s season ending injury.

Timed with the kick-off of the new football season, Dunkin’ Donuts celebrates the two-time Superbowl World Champion New England Patriots with its new ad airing for the first time Sunday, August 29. The ad features New England Patriots Tedy Bruschi, Ty Warren and Mike Vrabel promoting the company’s new Bacon, Ham and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich. The sandwich will be offered in the Northeast for a limited time only.

“Dunkin’ Donuts and the New England Patriots are both well-loved by New Englanders,” said John Gilbert, Dunkin’ Donuts vice president of marketing. “So, it’s only fitting that we team up to introduce a new version of our breakfast sandwich, the best selling breakfast sandwich in New England.”

Sarah Palin Screws Up Interview With Charles Gibson

I know that this is already a week or so old, but I wanted to write a little about it. As I watched this interview, I could not stop commenting on all of her screw ups.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video
Sarah Palin Interview

Why is it that she thinks that since she can see Russia from Alaska that she has the ability to run the country and handle foreign affairs. Also, she did not answer a lot of his questions straight forward. She was circumventing the topics by spewing out crap that the middle of the country is soaking right up. Why do Republicans think that because some of us don’t believe in the war in Iraq, that doesn’t mean we don’t love the US. I stand strongly with Obama about what needs to be done with the war so that we can move on and get out of the war responsibly. We can’t depend on foreign oil any more and Obama has a plan to change that, McCain wants to keep drilling and drilling because that’s where the money is. This isn’t about money or oil, it is about the survival of our country. If we can drill a little bit to bring oil prices down, that is something that might help a little, but it is a short term solution. It is not the right solution and we can’t accept that it is.

Another note, why would someone who wants to be Vice-President of the United States and possibly President not know about the Bush Doctrine. Granted when I first heard about it, I needed to look it up to find out more about it, but I am not running for office. I am not dealing with foreign heads of state right now. She should know the basics of what it is about, but in the interview she was stumped and Charles Gibson stuck it to her.

Last Saturday on “Saturday Night Live”, Tina Fey mocked Sarah Palin really bad for this interview. It was very funny considering that everyone already thought Tina looked exactly like Palin.

How The "New Kids on the Block" Relate To My Youth

Posted at: 11:40 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Rants and Randomness

Don’t take the title any different than to hopefully grab a reader’s attention.

I was watching the movie “The Ringer” on TNT and when it went to a commercial with the dates and venues for the “New Kids on the Block” reunion tour. In 1989, when the “New Kids on the Block” were in the Boston area, my mother took my sisters (NOT me) to see them. That night since it was just my father and I, he took me out for pizza in Arlington Heights and then took me to see “All Dogs go to Heaven“. We did a lot of family outings growing up, but the times that I got to spend with my father, just the two of us, those memories still remain in my mind.

In the 3,700ish days that I had the chance to spend with my father, there are certain days I can pick out in my mind. Maybe not every detail, but at least the 5W’s. I wish there was a way that I could, every time I wanted to, take a “screenshot” of each moment and save it forever. I understand that is what a camera is for, but you can’t capture every RANDOM moment over the course of a lifetime, even though my mother came very close.

I know it is just a movie, but it is a memory that I can have for the rest of my life and that I alone can have. The little things are the one that make me sad randomly. Playing catch (baseball) while cooking dinner on the grill; Lying down on the floor watching tv in the same way he would lie down. Eating fried bologna together. All of those, just off the top of my head, have changed the way I look at this twisted road that we call life.
