Time Warner Cable has made me very unhappy because they make money on screwing over the customer. I have had problems with my service over the past two years and they will not admit that it is their fault, even though the technician who came out to look at my service told us there was a problem. It was a problem with their line and it has been that way for two years. When I called to talk to someone about it, they told me there was no record of the problem.

Due to no record of what they fixed, I can’t call the billing department to get a partial refund for the past two years of service. Every time it rains, we lose internet and TV service for the majority of channels. When they setup our service, they told us there wasn’t a good connection to our apartment. Instead of looking into the problem, they said it was wiring in our apartment that was the problem. It turns out that there was a slice of wire missing from a line down the street which was causing the connection problems every time it rained. I would switch to Satellite, but to get “local channels” like NESN, it would cost me an extra $40 a month to go to the next level up.

Does anyone else have problems with Time Warner Cable?

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term.

The answer by one student was so “profound” that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, “It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,” and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct……leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting “Oh my God.”

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

With time running out on making deals with Mark Teixeira, the Red Sox traveled to the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas to try and come to an agreement for 2009. The Angels have just offered the top offensive first baseman an 8 year, at least $160 million contract and the Red Sox don’t want to let him go. He would be an excellent addition to the team and Theo will do everything he can to “get his man”….again. Not only will he help with defense, but he is a highly trained offensive weapon that will fill the empty 3-4 slot that opened up when Manny left. I mean, Lowell is amazing and so is Youk, but I think that they could rewrite the lineup and make a solid 7-8 players.

Teixeira, 28, has hit at least 30 homers and driven in at least 105 runs in each of the past five seasons. After being acquired from the Braves before the trading deadline this past season, Teixeira hit .358 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs in 54 games with the Angels.

In my opinion, the only way that the Sox will have a chance at winning the division and the World Series is with Mark Teixeira in the lineup. I know the Sox can do it without him, but I think it will be so much easier with him.

When you hear the name OJ Simpson, what do you think of? OJ Simpson gets away with 2 counts of murder and then he thinks everything will be fine when he and a group of men rob someone at gun point over some sports memorabilia.

When you hear the name OJ Simpson, what do you think of? Some people would say a great football player…up until June 12, 1994 when he was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. From that point on, he was only considered by most, including me, a murderer. So he becomes involved in the “trial of the century” which ended in October 1995 where he was found not guilty. He is then brought up on civil charges where he was found guilty and has to pay $33.5 million in damages.

After the trial, he was hated by most Americans and lost “a lot” of his money. Let’s jump forward about 10 years. Let’s recap! OJ Simpson gets away with 2 counts of murder and then he thinks everything will be fine when he and a group of men rob someone at gun point over some sports memorabilia. Really OJ? You didn’t think to yourself that you might get caught.

Today he was sentenced to 33 years in prison with eligibility for parole in 9 years. First of all, he should not be allowed parole and be in jail for the rest of his life. I was talking to a friend of mine and I told him: “All his life, he was told don’t drop the football. Now it’s going to be don’t drop the soap.”

Have fun OJ!!!

I have been blogging consistently for the last two years and it has been great, but I have a feeling that some of my content has been fading a little bit. I am going to try to cut back on blogging just to blog and try to focus on my content. I am three posts away from my 1,000th post and when I started this consecutive streak, I was at 190 posts. I have put out around 800 posts in the last two years. I will still try to blog frequently, but not as much.

Thank you to everyone who reads this blog!

I was watching the movie “Elf” tonight and I saw the part where he was using Lite-Brite and it got me thinking. I remember sitting our playroom growing up using Lite-Brite for everything. We used it to write “Happy Birthday” or “Merry Christmas”. It brought me back to a time when life was a lot easier.

I looked up Lite-Brite to see if it still exists and not only does it still exist, but look at all of the lite-brite products they have now.

I also found that you can Create Your Own Lite-Brite online which was awesome. This is what I created in 5 minutes. The top one is the Armenian Flag and the bottom should be the American Flag, but you can only do so much in a short amount of time.

Today was the first Thanksgiving without my father. I know that over the next months there will be a lot of first _____ without him, but it is very hard. The holidays are the time when our family, just like many others, spent the most time together. We had certain traditions that will change and memories we shared.

I know that Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks and there are plenty of things to be thankful for. There are some people who don’t have food to eat or a place to live. Don’t get me wrong, I have food to eat and a place to live, but it still doesn’t change the fact about how much it hurts to not spend time with my dad. Some point I will be able to be thankful during the holidays, but it won’t be for a little bit.

To all those who have the chance to spend time with their loved ones, I hope you enjoyed it and make sure to remember the time you get to spend with them.

My friend Sonya and I went to dinner at Chili’s tonight and decided to go to the Barnes and Noble next door. I started to walk up the escalator while talking to Sonya and realized that I wasn’t going anywhere. When I looked, the escalator that normally goes up was now facing the other way.

I asked why it was changed and they told me that due to the fact that it takes more power for an escalator to go up then down. The “up” escalator motor was having issues and they needed to switch it. However, I realized that it must have been awhile since I was in that B&N because it has been like that for about 6 months.

It was a funny situation that I went through today and thought I would share it.

My sister, Sharon, wrote the following (In a fun way) The new family who bought our house are Jewish and we wanted to let them know that we will always remember Christmas in our house.

I have been very busy lately trying to move everything out of my childhood house because we sold it. You never really miss something until it is gone and in the past few months, I have experienced that on many occasions. However, before we “turned the keys over”, I took some pictures to remember it by. Of course there is nothing in the house, but at least it is something.

View the entire album of pictures from our house

This is a view from the outside of the house. This used to be a ranch style house, but when I was 2 1/2, my father completed the second floor and our bedrooms moved upstairs.

For most of my life, I have lived at house number 75 (except for college). There are holes around the numbers because of Christmas time, we would hang lights all around and those were from the staple gun.

The living room is where we would have Christmas morning and our Christmas tree to the left of the fireplace.

Every Christmas growing up, my sister’s and I would walk down the stairs from our rooms and stand on the steps while my mother took a picture of us. It was a tradition that I will miss very much even though we haven’t done it in years.

Our kitchen was redone in 1999 along with our addition to the back of our house.

This is the inside of the addition that was added on in 1999

This is the back of the house and the addition

The next two pictures are of my room growing up. My room didn’t originally have cable TV, but I was bored one day while my mother was at work and I climbed out my window and ran cable into my room. The cable that is plugged in is actually from my sister’s room which a professional added. When he was setting up her cable, he said the job looked professionally done.

In our basement, there was a wall that we wrote on growing up. It started with my sister and her friends and then my friends and I took over. It was a very memorable wall for me and I had to take pictures of it.

Since there was already writing on the wall, my sister’s and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to write a little more. My sister, Sharon, wrote the following

(In a fun way) The new family who bought our house are Jewish and we wanted to let them know that we will always remember Christmas in our house.

We figured that the new owners would replace the wall we wrote on, so we wrote in a hidden area in my father’s workbench area.

This was where all my father’s tools were and he spent a lot of time down here because he loved working on the house.

Finally, this was our upstairs bathroom. I picked this picture to describe because I found a picture (second picture) of my father and I when I was younger and we were both shaving. I wasn’t actually shaving, but it was a memorable time spending with my dad.

I saw this a while ago, but never got around to blogging it. It is quite easy to figure out what number is what because of the standard clock, but it is interesting to figure out. Some of the calculations are very easy like 6×2 or sqrt of 4, but others are harder, 52 – x2 + x = 10. It would be a good gift to get as a grab item. The clock sells for $26.95 and is available on ThinkGeek.

I have only lived in one house my entire life up until now. Granted, I went off to college for 5 years, but besides that, I have only lived in one house. Today we completely moved out of my old house and it is very weird. It was one thing to move out of my college apartment, but moving out of a house after living in it for 24 years. I have so many memories in that house that it would take me a very long time to compile a list of all of them.

I might post some pictures of the house if I can find them.

Since I was laid off on Thursday afternoon, I have been trying to think of all of the skills that I have acquired while working at StudentCity. As I was going through my resume, I realized that I should get rid of some of my older content and replace it with updated data. A lot of people who I have seen have kept data on their resume that is old and do not update with their new “mad skillz” (Someone wrote that on their resume once).

I will be updating my resume and sending it out with my applications hoping to find something that I will enjoy as much as my last job.

I went back to Vasken’s house and hung out while I added programs to my new laptop. I will be spending time with other friends and working on updating my resume.

I miss the Plymouth scene, but I don’t know if I could live here. Too far away from my family and Boston. However, I have a job possibility up here, so i don’t want to rule it out. It will be a good weekend that I can just relax and have fun.

If anyone reading this wants to go on spring break, go to StudentCity.com, book a trip and have the best spring break experience of your life.

There are certain things that I have got accustomed to over the past year while working for StudentCity.com. I loved my working environment, my co-workers, my responsibilities and the company itself. StudentCity is an amazing company with amazing people who give college students the experience that they deserve while on spring break. However, since the economy is horrible right now, a lot of parents can’t afford to send their son/daughter on spring break. Unfortunately for me, I was a casualty of this current economy.

The past few months have been very hard with losing my father to cancer, having to sell my childhood house and now losing my job to the economy, but there is a plan. Even though I am still having trouble believing it, I know that everything will work out. Not to be super religious, but God wouldn’t give me anything that I couldn’t handle. I will figure out my job situation and who knows, this job might even be better for my career in web development.

I am in no way mad at StudentCity for letting me go, but I am saddened by how much I am going to miss working there. I was at the company for a year and three months and loved every minute of it. If anyone reading this wants to go on spring break, go to StudentCity.com, book a trip and have the best spring break experience of your life. Let them know that I said Hi, have fun and as StudentCity staffers always say, “See you on the beach”!

I have had the same cell number for more than 6 years now from Verizon Wireless. When I first signed up for Verizon before I went off to college, I was add onto my parents account. When I graduated, I was going to change to my own plan, but with everything going on, I never got a chance to. I have been meaning to go into the Verizon store to start my own contract since I am moving closer to the North Shore area. I always forget my father’s death certificate which they will require to be pulled off the account.

I have always been granted full control of the account both online/by phone. However, recently Verizon changed their security polices making it so the only person set to be account manager is the account owner. This made it hard for me to do anything on the account until I was on my new contract. When I got locked out of the online account, I called to have them reset it. Luckily they unlocked my online account for me so that I could still do things online, but to do any other tasks, I would need to have my own account.

Looks like I have to go this week to take care of it.

The other day, my mother received a letter saying that she owed $1,000 to Sears for purchases that my father made. What we didn’t realize is that those charges were made 3 months after he passed away. Today, we got a letter with a detailed copy of our bill and the dates and purchase locations. I decided to call the number on the bill and have some fun with them since I had no intentions of paying.

A man picked up the call and asked me for my name. I refused to give it because they didn’t need to know my name. I gave the man, his account number and he asked how he could help me. I wanted to discuss some of the charges on the account and he told me that he needed to speaker with the account holder.

Me – {angrily but having fun} “You want to speak to the account holder? The one who passed away 3 months ago! No, you can’t speak with him”.
Man – “I am sorry to hear that and I will write a note that he is deceased.”
Me – “{mockingly and pissed} You should already have that in your records since “you” (the company) originally called, talked with me and said that you follow up on dead accounts.”
Man – “Well you are still responsible for the balance on the account.”

I then asked him if this call was being recorded and he told me that it was. I explained that the charges were made 3 months after my father passed away. There were charges for an electric company in Arkansas and we live in Massachusetts. Also Progressive Insurance for $1,000 and other miscellaneous and fraudulent charges. The best part was that there was a payment made on the account for $1,132 on 10/8/08. If someone was going to steal his identity/card, why would that person made a payment for what they stole. Due to that point alone, I feel that it is a scam.

Finally I explained that they would not see a penny of that balance and that if they tried to pursue this bill, they would be speaking with our lawyer. I hung up the phone and had a good laugh with my mother standing right next to me.

Note: There is a part of me that wanted them to come after us and hope for some money to pay off my student loans.

Random story, but it was entertaining (maybe)

I was driving down the street yesterday to go pick up some meatballs for my spaghetti dinner and there was a bus in front of me. After a while, he put on his right blinker and slowed down by the side of the road to let passengers out. The car in front of me passed the bus and I was right behind him. The bus was still moving a little bit, but still had it’s blinker on. As I was approaching the front of the bus, he started turning left towards me. At that point, I was too far that I could stop, so I continued to go. Right after I passed the bus he took the entire lane and it didn’t even seem to bother him.

I wonder if they actually think they control the roads and they don’t have to pay attention to their surroundings. I hate how they pull into traffic and cut everyone off just because they are bigger. I believe they call that being a bully.

That’s all.

Well, if anyone did any research on what McCain claimed, they would find out that Obama stated that he does not believe in everything that the Reverend said and he repudiated Wright's comments.

Most people in the US don’t actually research statements made by politicians, they just believe them. I am a very vocal supporter of Barack Obama, but not everything he says is the truth. That is a politician speaking and they are trying to get you to vote for them. However, it is our “responsibility” to research what they say and analyze their comments for any inconsistencies. We can’t just listen to what the politicians say because most of it is just filler and I am not denying that. However, there is more to a story than what the candidates say.

I know someone, who I won’t mention their name, let’s call them “Jane”. Jane is very religious and believes in Christianity. I am a Christian too, so this is nothing against my own beliefs. However, Jane is uncomfortable with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s south side. He spoke about how the US caused the terrorist attacks of 9/11 because of our bombings in other countries. McCain was attacking Obama for him being tied to a radical minister. Well, if anyone did any research on what McCain claimed, they would find out that Obama stated that he does not believe in everything that the Reverend said and he repudiated Wright’s comments. Everyone has that person that they know who makes a comment that they don’t agree with, it is a part of life. You are going to be affiliated with someone who makes a comment that makes you look bad. Now, if Jane actually checked the validity of McCain’s claim, Jane may think differently. However, since Jane is very religious, she holds Obama responsible and thinks that he is going to ruin the country with Rev. Wright at his side. That is just the first part of my issue with Jane’s comments.

When did religion become the basis of a political election in the United States. When did the US ever feel like religion determines who becomes President. What I am trying to say is that we should not be judging him based off of what his pastor says, but what he believes in. He has already said that he does not believe everything the reverend says and that should have been the end of it. In school, I had a teacher who explained that the US is officially a Secular Nation.

A secular state is a state or country that is officially neutral in matters of religion, neither supporting nor opposing any particular religious beliefs or practices. A secular state also treats all its citizens equally regardless of religion, and does not give preferential treatment for a citizen from a particular religion over other religions.

Let’s move on to William Ayers and his ties to Obama. The McCain camp, mostly Palin has been claiming that Obama is “palling around with terrorists“. Well, if Palin is suggesting that Obama has had contact with a radical activist who set off bombs 40 years ago when Obama was 8 years old, than she’s right. However, Obama claims that he didn’t know any of his past history. Well, not everyone knows everything about everyone when they meet them. There are secrets that people keep and that doesn’t get brought up until that person is in the spotlight. I have been in many organizations in my life and have served on many boards. Mainly in college, but that isn’t the point I am trying to make. If someone that I worked with on an organization did something in their past that I didn’t know about, that doesn’t make me a terrorist. According to the McCain campaign, it does. I love how Kevin Bacon’s six degrees of separation isn’t a game anymore because it messes with the future of a country and a planet. What I mean by that is if McCain becomes President because too many people think that Obama has ties to terrorists than not only is our country going to suffer, but so is the future of the planet.

McCain wants to stay in Iraq spending 10 billion dollars a month while the real terrorist threat is on the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Now, those $10 billion/month is going to a country that has an $80 billion dollar surplus while our country is in a recession and going into a depression. Also, McCain is all about the need for oil and that’s why they say “Drill, Baby, Drill” because they want to drill off the coast of the US. The reason we need alternative sources of energy is not only because we need to free ourselves of foreign oil, it is that we need to be oil independent. Our planet is going to change drastically because of what the oil is doing to it. We need a source of energy that is not only “green” but renewable. Oil is a resource that we can not reproduce once it is gone. However, if we start funding other sources that are feasible like Wind Turbines, we can produce the same amount of energy or more and not use any oil.

Finally, Sarah Palin (R-VP candidate for McCain) made a comment that is really a punch in the face to certain states in the country. Palin stated: “We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation.” Why would she think that there are parts of this country that aren’t American. Well since she is the governor of a state that has only been a part the US for 49 years, should that make her state less American? No, because it is a part of the United States, just like every other state. How dare she accuse certain parts of the country to be non-American. That is not what a Vice President or President would say. If there was one bit of respect I had for her before this, it is gone.

Just like I have said before, I am not a political analyst, I just state my views.

I attended Plymouth State University for 5 years and the football team won 9 (nine) football games during that time which is a 20% winning percentage. I came up for Homecoming this year and find out that Plymouth is actually doing very well the past two years. Last year, their record was 9-1 and this year so far, they are 4-1 after today’s crushing 40-20. I am glad they waited until I left to get really good.

It was really good to see people again and to catch up.
