Yes, if we receive more metadata about a fact, the usual defensive/offensive reaction would change. But there are also different aspects into this. Some people are also prone to reaction even if they receive information about why this or that car was flying at a high speed, because they do not want to put themselves in another person's shoes. Of course, many also manipulate, making use of people's empahty, knowing that if they tell very good stories/excuses, they will get what they want. This is a nice subject that you’ve posted about.
