The Interesting Logic Of Two Year Olds
I went out to eat with my family the other day to celebrate the birth of my goddaughter Carly and I realized how interesting the logic of my two year old nephew Cameron. He is obsessed with numbers and letters and he knows all the letters and about 20 numbers. We were counting numbers on his placement in reverse from 20. He then said, “Nineteen, Eighteen, Seventeen, Sixteen” and he then proceeded to “Fiveteen”. Fiveteen isn’t really a number (technically word), but in his mind, all of the other numbers began with the number + teen.
However, you ask him which number seventeen is on a paper, he can point it out. A specialist told my sister that children don’t know numbers or letters until they are at least three. I’m not sure if that is true, but it is weird to see that kind of innocence because I was the youngest child in my family and Cameron is my first nephew.
