Armenia And Turkey Want To Become Closer Politically

Posted at: 11:50 pm by Timothy Haroutunian

Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan called on Monday for closer ties with Turkey, 15 years after the two nations severed diplomatic relations over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

They are also at odds over the question of whether ethnic Armenians killed by Ottoman Turks during World War One were victims of genocide. Armenia and Turkey broke off diplomatic links in 1993, when Ankara closed the border and backed Azerbaijan during its war with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a mainly ethnic Armenian enclave within Azerbaijan.

“The improvement of ties between Armenia and Turkey is mutually beneficial,” Sarksyan told a news conference on Monday. “I think we should improve our relations.”

“The important thing is that in relations between Armenia and Turkey a trend is taking shape for being ready to start a healthy discussion of the existing problems,” he said.

‘The Dark Knight’ Mini Review

I saw the Dark Knight today with my friend Lindsay and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Heath Ledgers performance will shock you because of how real he makes it. He locks in on the role and never backs down. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone, even people who aren’t interested in Batman.

As this video explains, Heath should be up for an Oscar. I know the video is a few weeks old, but it made my point.

Red Shirt Fridays

This was sent to me by my Aunt. I support the troops, not the war!

Red Shirt

If the Red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man… Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who’d been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.

Heading out I asked?

No. I’m escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I’m taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn’t know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier’s family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.’

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here’s a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ’silent majority. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday — and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that .. every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this count ry will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once ’silent’ majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked ‘What can we do to make things better for you?’ is. ‘We need your support and your prayers.’ Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you;

Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

Seriously, Who Microwaves A Cat?

abc_cat_microwave_080423_mnI was watching the news last night and they showed a cat that was turned into the Animal Shelter who had many serious burns all over its body. Police are currently looking for the person who did this, but nothing has come up.

Who would do that? Very mean people, I guess.

James Posey Won’t Be Returning To Boston Celtics Next Season

James PoseyUnfortunately for the Boston Celtics, James Posey will not be on the team next year since he signed a 4 year $25 million deal with the New Orleans Hornets. He wanted to stay in Boston, but the Hornets offered him more money.

“It was a really tough decision for him, Boston was an incredible experience for him every way you look at it. If he was going to leave Boston, he wanted to make sure it was for a team that would compete for championship immediately and the Hornets certainly are in that world.” - Mark Bartelstein (his agent)

Posey will be missed in Boston!

Josh Hamilton’s Homerun Show, Falls Short In 2008 Derby Finals

Josh Hamilton hit 28 Home Runs in the first round of the 2008 Home Run Derby. Unfortunately, since he hit so many of them in the first round, he couldn’t beat Justin Morneau for the title since the Home Runs do not carry over into the final round.

Josh Hamilton asked his 71 year old BP pitcher to pitch to him and he threw about 90 balls.

Jonah Hill On Saturday Night Live (March 15, 2008)

When this originally aired, my DVR did not process the recording and I was unable to watch it. Luckily, they are replaying it tonight.

This week has been very bad and I needed a good laugh. Jonah Hill was absolutely hilarious on each skit in the first half hour. I haven’t got past that yet. His monologue was “f in fancy” and very funny.

*Update: Weekend Update was awesome as usual and Internet Blind Date was pretty funny. The only problem is that Mariah Carey was lip syncing her songs.
