Manny Ramírez became the 24th player in MLB history to reach 500 career home runs. He joins Red Sox greats Ted Williams and Jimmie Foxx. Today’s HR against the Orioles came 1 day after his 36th birthday.

Ramirez got every bit of an 82-mph, first-pitch offering from former teammate Chad Bradford and sent it soaring high and far into the Baltimore night. The 410-foot blast — a solo job to right-center — came with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, and it boosted Boston’s lead to 5-3.

The Ramirez watch had been on for some time. By clubbing six homers in the season’s first 19 games, Ramirez was at 496 on April 19.

Peabody Fire Leave Hundreds Of People Homeless

It hasn’t been a good two days in the Boston area. Today at around 4pm, an apartment complex in Peabody, MA (the city where I currently work) went up in flames. The “luxury” apartments, Highlands at Dearborn, are still burning at this moment and firefighters will be working to put it out. Residents were sent to Salem State College

The evening commute home for cars going 95/128 North and South was backed up for miles and the smoke could be seen in parts of Boston (about 25 miles away). As I was driving home today after work, I was stuck in the traffic and when I looked over and saw the flames and the apartment burning, it looked awful.

One of my friends from work lived there and lost everything. Not only did she lose her apartment and all her possessions, she also lost her two cats who were trapped inside while she was at work. We are setting up a collection at work to help her.

traincollision5At around 6:15pm, two trains on the Green Line collided in a very horrific accident killing the trains conductor. The trains

MBTA officials said an outbound commuter 2-car train stopped for a red light signal near Woodland Station and was hit from behind by a second outbound 2-car train. The operator of the second train was trapped inside and emergency crews worked for hours Wednesday night to pull her from the wreckage.

“The train was stopped at the time. I thought we were waiting for the track to clear ahead of us. The train was not moving. I remember because I was annoyed. I had a meeting to go to, and I was going to be late and then all of a sudden… Wham!” Brodeur said. “And everything broke loose. The chairs broke loose. I wound up on my butt about 4 seats forward. I lost my glasses, cap, briefcase… We walked to the front of our car… and then I noticed there was a fire to the right of the accident site. It looked like a brush fire ignited by the sparks from the accident. We all started walking along the tracks toward Woodland Station.” – Bob Brodeur, Passenger
