Red Sox Take Two of Three From Struggling Tigers

I know this isn’t a long post, I had a busy night with a project for work.

After the first game against the Detroit Tigers, a loss dropped their record was 0-6, however, they somehow managed a win on game two. After the third game in which the Red Sox won 12-6, the Tigers record is 0-7. Tomorrow the Yankees come into town and I am going to the game on Saturday with my friend Tony.

Many of my friends from work were at this game and two of them got their tickets from me, I hope they had fun :)

MooTools Overrides $, $$ Makes MooTools ‘Not Suck’ So Bad

Months ago, we started to redesign different parts of our sites and started using Ajax to accomplish that. Some of my co-workers liked using MooTools and I am a jQuery user. Just so I could get things done at work and not try and learn a new javascript framework, I wrote my code in jQuery. When one of my co-workers asked why I was using it, I explained the pros and very few cons of jQuery. Work now conforms to a jQuery standard and makes my life a lot easier.

However, while redesigning GradCity.com (still not live yet as of post date), we found a MooTools version of a feature we wanted to add into the site. We thought about how we could convert it into jQuery, but we didn’t want to spend too much time on that and get behind on the rest of the site. We decided to leave it in there for now until we presented the new design to management. However, it was conflicting with jQuery like we knew it would. We spent time changing the few items that we currently had in there from jQuery’s $(”#something”).click(…) to jQuery(”#something”).click(…) for now so everything would work. However, most of the jQuery plugins use $ and the plugins themselves are packed. I wanted to find a way that I could redefine the namespace for the one MooTools plugin and use the $ for jQuery.

Now, we still don’t have time to convert yet, but I think I found an easier way of making this happen. I make a post to the MooTools forum and got two different answers. However, the one answer that I like tells me that I can use $$ and it will leave the $ namespace alone for jQuery to play with. The $$ is the annoying new kid who no one likes and everyone starts making fun of him instead of the scrawny little kid who can’t play basketball. Now people can get along with the scrawny kid because he is not the oddball anymore.

jQuery is 1000% better than MooTools in my opinion.

2008 Boston Red Sox Home Opener; Wins, Rings And F-16’s

The Red Sox win the home opener 5-0 against the Detroit Tigers dropping them to 0-7 for the season. Today they also unveiled the new 2007 World Champions banner and brought in a lot of surprises. During the Ring Ceremony, they had past Boston sports heroes to present the rings to the Red Sox management. These included but not all of them, Celtics: Bill Russell - Bruins, Johnny Bucyk and Bobby Orr - Patriots: Teddy Bruschi.

To make the day better, they brought in former hated Red Sox First Baseman Billy Buckner to throw out the first pitch. It was a very emotional day for him knowing that he wasn’t hated in Boston anymore, which brought him to tears after everyone cheered. After the National Anthem was played, 4 F-16’s from Vermont flew overhead (which is ironic - figure it out…really lame).

I have tickets to Thursday’s game, but I sold them to one of my co-workers.

NCAA Basketball Championship, Overtime Win For Kansas

The 2008 Championship ended in the Kansas Jayhawks winning the title, but it didn’t come easy. Kansas was up by 5 points at the end of the first half, but they somehow lost their groove and were down by 9 points with 2 minutes left. In the next two minutes, the Jayhawks came back with a 3 pointer to tie (2.1 seconds left). The game went into overtime where Kansas dominated and won the game.

Memphis had the game won….oh wait, they didn’t because the Kansas Jayhawks were cutting the net down at the end of the game.

Mario Chalmers

Tidbits of Information:
The last time the NCAA Basketball Championship game went into overtime was in 1997.
20th Anniversary of when the Jayhawks last won the championship.

I don’t know what is going on with the Sox, they haven’t been able to get a W in the last 3 games.

I was very excited to have Beckett back in the rotation, but when he struggled in the 5th when he left with the bases loaded. Frank Thomas hit a grand slam and it basically ended it for Boston

Blogged on location!

Why Does Seth MacFarlane Hate Dharma And Greg

Has anyone ever wondered why Seth MacFarlane (Creator of Family Guy) hates the tv show “Dharma and Greg”. Seth made many references to the show in Family Guy. For example, “coming up after a new Dharma and Greg (but you don’t have to watch that)” or in viewer mail #1, Stewie stole the laugh box from the set of Dharma and Greg and Brian said, “wow, I’m surprised there is anything left…Wooooohoooooo”. His references were usually indirect, but on the 100th episode, he made a comment about Dharma and Greg and stated that it was just an awful show and then there was at least a 30 second pause.

I don’t know the reason that he hates the show, but I have a hypothesis. It seems that Seth MacFarlane should have been the original part for Greg on the show. Due to contract negotiations, they opted to go with another actor. Seth was angry at the show and took it out on them when he created Family Guy in 1999.

The above image and hypothesis is fake and the image was manipulated on Adobe Photoshop by me.

Facebook Is ‘In Bed’ With Singles Who Have Herpes

Facebook HerpesWhile developing a facebook application for work the other day, I saw this ad on the left hand side. The website is that this was for was: stdmatch.net. The question I have, is did the woman posing for this even know what her face was going to be on? If I was asked to pose for something, I would want to know what it was going to be used on and I wouldn’t agree to have my face be associated with herpes.

I know that some people might not think this is funny, but I got a kick out of their title. “Have Herpes and Alone?” It also says that it was featured on CNN, “As seen on cnn.com”.

I thought the title of this post was funny. Dual meaning!

Comcast Launches 50Mbit Internet Access (Very Fast)

Today Comcast released very fast internet to subscribers who would like faster speeds than anyone else. For those who are interested will incur a charge of $150 per month on their bill. However, Comcast is not the first company to do this. Verizon FIOS (what I have) has been offering 50Mbit for quite some time with limited availability to highly competitive areas, like Boston. Comcast will cap the upload speed to 5Mbit while Verizon allows for 20Mbit upload speeds.

Red Sox Sweep Mini Series in Oakland

Categories: Sports and Leisure

After a big 2-1 win over the Athletics in the first game of the second, two game, series in early April, the Red Sox and A’s fought it out in the afternoon today. Going into the 7th inning, it was 0-0 and that is when the Sox took control. Ortiz blasted a 2 run HR in the 7th off Embree to start the scoring.

The Sox couldn’t break it open in the 8th with the bases loaded and no outs, but they managed to bring two runs home. However, they didn’t need it with the extra runs because the A’s couldn’t score. The Sox are playing really good and they are missing some key pitchers like Schilling, Timlin and Beckett. Hopefully Beckett and Timlin will be ready for Sunday.

The Red Sox’s record goes to 3-1.

YouTube’s New API, What A Coincidence

Posted at: 11:26 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Tech and Web

A few week ago (before march 11th), I was at work and looking through the YouTube API figuring out how we could benefit from it. My boss wanted to use it on our site (StudentCity.com), for when travelers want to post their videos on YouTube through our community. After scrolling through the documentation, I realized that not only could we not upload from our site, but I could not get a lot of the information that we would like to have. I mentioned this to my boss stating that unless they release more features to the API, it isn’t going to happen.

March 12thish, my boss informed me that a new version of the YouTube API was released. After researching and finding out that it is exactly what I was looking for, I felt like saying, “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner”. Not really, but I like the reference. The new API is amazing. Besides getting the video information, I can upload files, get related videos along with more by the same user. I can also add a rating and get the comments. All of these things, I was doing myself with queries and self gathered data.

Since I found out about this, my priorities at work have changed to redesigning our sister site (GradCity.com) and once we finish, I will be hoping to add in features from the new YouTube API“>YouTube API.

Thank You YouTube!!!
