The Red Sox now have 8 come from behind wins this season (40% of the games). Wakefield was pitching tonight giving up 5 runs making it 5-0 going into the 7th inning. The Red Sox were able to get 2 runs back and Wakefield came out for the 8th inning and getting 3 outs. In the bottom of the 8th, the Red Sox scored 4 times making it 6-5 and out came Papelbon to close it. He got the save and Wakefield got the win.

Boston sports teams over the years are very hit or miss, but most of the time missing. Since 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007 with the N.E. Patriots and 2004, 2007 for the Red Sox and 2007-2008 with the Celtics, it is a great time to live here. However, the very under-rated and the underdog in the NHL brackets, Boston Bruins are tearing up the place.
I will talk about the Red Sox later in the post, I want to get to the Bruins first. The first two periods were very hard hitting and intense, but the scoring was very low. The Canadians were also leading 2-1 going into the 3rd period and there was elimination on the line. The Garden was fired back up when the Bruins scored 3 minutes into the 3rd period. With 8 minutes left regulation time, the game got very interesting. With the the Bruins losing 3-2, they tie it up 3-3 with a faceoff goal deflected in. Boston took the lead for the first time 4-3 when Kessel scored with 4:15 left in the game. However, Montreal tied it up 4-4 11 seconds later silencing the deafening crowd. 2:37 seconds left, the Bruins took the final lead 5-4 on an amazing goal from Marco Sturm and held on for the win. With 2 minutes left in the game, every player on both sides were fighting hard then ever and the game got more intense. My friend Kevin was at the game and he saw a great one.
If you noticed I only saw the end of the third period on my DVR because I knew what to watch. I couldn’t watch the game live because I was 3.2 miles away at Fenway Park watching the Red Sox beat the Rangers 5-3 on a come from behind win. The Red Sox were down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th inning. Big Papi tied the game at 3-3 and then next batter (Manny Ramirez) hit a bomb to give the Red Sox a 5-3 lead. That home run was Manny’s 496th Career, 4 away from 500. He will be the 24th player in MLB history to hit 500 home runs. During “Sweet Caroline”, they updated the park about the Bruins win and all of Fenway Park erupted in cheers giving the Red Sox some good luck. Papelbon came in to close the game out, get the save and the win.
I have tons of stories, but that can wait until tomorrow.

Tonight while watching the Red Sox Yankees game at Yankee Stadium, I realized that their employees are idiots. They were playing songs all night that had the word “moon” in it because they thought it was a full moon. However it wasn’t a full moon. According to farmers almanac, the moon will not be completely full until April 20th at 6:25am. What a bunch of morons that they couldn’t take 15 seconds to google it and find out.
By the way, the Red Sox beat the Yankees 7-5 putting the Red Sox in sole control of first place in the AL East. I know it is still April, but I love saying that the Red Sox are in 1st. I did it for mostly all of last year, so I figure this year should be about the same.
After being in the bottom three more than anyone in the competition, Kristy Lee Cook was finally voted off. I believe that, despite how much I want him to continue, Jason Castro should have been voted off. Kristy Lee is absolutely an amazing singer and I want her to get another record deal, but this time actually make it big. She has the beauty and the talent and should have no problem continuing with her music career.
She is an outdoorsy girl who raises and trains horses in Oregon. She loves camping, the wild and kick boxing. That is an awesome set of skills that she has. Along with her singing talent, she will do just fine. I will miss seeing her on TV…for a while.
Here is her music video from her last album in 2001 Devoted.

The Red Sox somehow find a way to win. Again in the top of the 9th, Jason Varitek hits a Home Run to take the lead 4-3 after spending the whole game going back and forth in score.
The final out of the game was an amazing catch by Jacoby Ellsbury as he reached into the stands and took the ball away from a fan.

The Red Sox started a two game series with the Indians in Cleavland. Were losing 4-3 going into the top of the 9th inning. They battled back and Manny hit a 2 run home run to take the lead. Papelbon came out to close the game again.

Maria Sharapova has beaten Dominika Cibulkova in the clay court Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island, Florida. Sharapova has never been to/won on a clay court surface before in her career. She played decent in the this game, but it wasn’t her best stuff.

The MLB and the players union created a new drug policy for baseball, both MLB and Farm leagues. Some have even said going back to College or High School to do drug testing. They would increase the number of drug tests to around 3,600 making it about 3 per player per year.
Active players who were named in the Michell report will not get reprimanded but with have to do Community Service. The Players Union will have to give $200,000 to an anti-drug charity. Any fines imposed on management will be donated to the Partnership of a Drug Free America and the Taylor Hooton Foundation.
Mitchell said that the current penalties — 50 games for a first positive test, 100 for a second and a lifetime ban for a third with the right to apply for reinstatement after two years — were adequate, and those won’t change. But he advised that the program should be independently administrated, be more transparent, that testing — in season and out — should be increased, education be a necessary component and that new and better testing practices are able to be implemented without having to reopen the program on each occasion.
Beginning in 2009, Major League Baseball will impose uniform certification requirements on full-time strength and conditioning coaches employed by each team. In 2010, Selig will issue guidelines designed to ensure that qualified strength and conditioning coaches are available to players at all levels of every organization.
Major League players, including players named in the Mitchell Report, will join MLB to help educate youth and their parents regarding the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.
Teams will be notified if any amateur player tests positive, although the player would still be eligible for that year’s Draft. Any amateur player declining to be tested will lose his eligibility for the Draft.
Manfred said that the program administrator will use the list of top 200 amateur prospects compiled each year by the MLB Scouting Bureau as the basis for those players to be tested. Plus, drug testers will fan out to high schools, colleges and homes to conduct these tests. - source
It will be an interesting new era in baseball. To a new set of youth who will learn the meaning of the word “hero”!
