Peyton Manning, Tony Romo, Tom Brady And God

I know that this is the Pope and not God, but I figured it was close enough and it works with the joke!

bradypopeGod asks Peyton Manning, “What do you believe?”
Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, “I believe in
hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I
was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans.”
God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a
seat to his left.
Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, “What do you believe?”
Tony says, “I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the
fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I’ve always
tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields.”
God is greatly moved by Tony’s sincere eloquence and offers him a seat to
his right.
Finally, God turns to Tom Brady: “And you, Tom, what do you believe?”
Tom replies, “I believe you’re in my seat.”

Patriots Are Headed To Superbowl XLII To Face NY Giants

1200878418_1211The Patriots are back in the big game, but this time they are facing the NY Giants. The New England Patriots beat the Chargers 21-12, to head to Arizona for Superbowl XLII. However, this was not the best game that the Patriots have played. Brady was intercepted 3 times and only got 2 touchdowns and he wasn’t at his best today. I hope that he will be able to turn that around in two weeks. I was also upset with the secondary of the Pats who gave up some big yardage to the Chargers early in the game, A win is a win, but if they play like they did tonight during the superbowl, the Giants will crush them. However, the Patriots are too good to let anyone beat them, so I am only a little worried in that, “I know they will win, but stranger things have happened” kind of way.

A very enjoyable game which lead to the Patriots winning 18 straight games in one season. There is only one more game to go before we are claimed Champions once again. Oh by the way, the Giants beat the Packers in overtime 23-20. More to come later about the Superbowl.

GO PATRIOTS

MySQL Database Storage Engine: InnoDB vs. MyISAM

Posted at: 11:54 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Tech and Web

Over the last few months, I have really enjoyed working with the InnoDB storage engine in MySQL because of its support for Foreign Key Constraints. If you try and compare InnoDB to MyISAM, there is really only one choice, InnoDB. MyISAM was the former default storage engine until InnoDB replaced it. There reason that InnoDB is becoming so popular is because it allows for transactions which become very helpful when changing a lot of similar data over several tables.

For example:
If you have a table that holds a bunch of event types and you need to update the primary key to a record to add 1000 (for whatever reason). With MyISAM, you would need to go into every other table that has that ID and change them as well. With InnoDB, you assign it a foreign key to the other tables and as soon as you update the first table, it will automatically update all the other tables linking to it. This will save on the number of queries that you have to do and saving valuable time.

The other part that I enjoy it is because it allows for proper data disposal. If you have a user who goes to upload 2400 pictures over a years time and then decides that they want to delete their account. Not only have they put hundreds of large files on your server, now you have to go through each possible place that the user could have added information. With InnoDB and you are not wasting space on your server for users who are no longer going to come to your site.

However, linking your data is not the most important reason to use InnoDB, the best reason is the performance difference. I was reading an article by the MySQL Performance Blog which compared MyISAM, InnoDB and Falcon. First of all, I have never heard of Falcon, so I can’t compare that, but there is a noticeable difference in performance. InnoDB has much better results when running more queries while increasing the number of threads. These results will vary from server to server, but if InnoDB is setup right, it will help your database structure more when updating a lot of linked tables.

Wanna Shut Down Your Computer With A Text Message?

Posted at: 11:40 pm by Timothy Haroutunian

yoursign Tim Matheson wrote an article on how to remotely shutdown your computer. You can download the files from this page or go to the article if this link doesn’t work. You are basically creating a text file and saving it as “remote_shutdown.bat” and put it somewhere on your hard drive with the following inside

shutdown -f -s -c “SMS Remote Shutdown in progress…”

Basically you setup a rule in outlook to look for say a keyword in the subject line of an email. Then you select run application as the action for when that keyword is found. Then all you have to do is write a simple dos batch file and use the shutdown command with the -f parameter to ensure the shutdown is not aborted by any running applications. After that the rest is simple you simply send a sms text message from your cell phone or other source to your email address. You must have automatic send and receive tunned on for this to work.

Thank you Tim for creating this tutorial because many people are unaware that you can do that using outlook.

Life Behind Bars, But They Feed You Armenian Food

I was reading an article called “Life Behind Bars” and they explained what the prisoners got for food every day. Apparently Armenian food is what they feed them…alright, so it might not be just Armenian food, but it is a lot of what Armenians eat.

So far, Jassem Mohammed, has been in custody for “two years, two months and 10 days,” he says. “They feed us ‘fassoulia’[beans] and rice every single day,” he laments. “Is it possible for a man to survive the winter on such a diet?”

I understand that it would be tough eating the same food every day, but Fassoulia and Rice are amazing. Fassoulia is a great Armenian dish consisting of Green Beans, tomato sauce and Onion with some other seasonings which I love to have. Every time there is a celebration at my church, we have some main dish (chicken, lamb), fassoulia and rice pilaf. Good Eats!!!

Patriots Invite ‘Booee’ To AFC Championship

I posted on Sunday about how Colts Fans Suck when they booed 15 year old Anna Grant from Stratham, New Hampshire for being a Patriots fan who won a contest. Honestly, I was very upset over the situation because it is just mean and childish. However, she was interviewed by Fox 25 and she explained that she was prepared for it by her parents before hand.

I was not the only one who was upset over the situation. Former Patriots Player and current Executive Director of Community Affairs for the Patriots Andre Tippett called her at home to talk to her. He personally invited her to the stadium for the AFC Championship game on Sunday and is giving her the job as the coin flipper. She will get a big ovation this time and will not get booed for being a Patriots fan in Foxboro.

This is why giving back to the community is really awesome because you can brighten someone’s day who deserves it.

Go Patriots!!

Bush Signs Bill Reducing Aid To Armenian By 17.5 Million

Posted at: 11:49 pm by Timothy Haroutunian

George Bush has signed the 2008 fiscal year aid bill which is to provide $17.5 million less to Armenia compared to 2007. The bill, signed by “President” Bush, is an unchanged version of the budget expenditures item passed by the both houses a day earlier.

The 2008 overall package, known as the omnibus bill, envisions providing $58.5 million in economic assistance to Armenia within the Freedom Support Act. The omnibus aid bill includes $19 million for Azerbaijan. Also, the US will render $3 million in foreign military financing (FMF) assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan in equality. The 2008 budget items infuriated the US-based Armenian organizations.

I don’t understand why Bush keeps on aggravating the Armenian Americans by passing bills that take away from Armenians around the country. The last time was when he told congress not to vote on the Armenian Genocide recognition bill so that he could keep good standing with Turkey. George Bush needs to be out of office and 370 days can’t come quick enough.

The Bucket List: Movie Review

bucket-list-poster
The Bucket List” is a new movie that just came out with the main actors of Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson who play characters that are given 6 months to a year to live. Instead of wallowing in their misery, they decide to live the rest of their life to the fullest by traveling. I really enjoyed it even though it was very sad.

They traveled to the Pyramids in Egypt, went sky diving, race each other in classic cars (one being a shelby 350), and took private jet around the world and enjoyed the time they had, however long that may be. The problem with that is they became very good friends and changed each other’s lives without even knowing it. They were there for each other when they were at their lowest points.

Earlier, I said it was sad, and I mean extremely sad, because it hit very close to home. I don’t know why, but the movie just got to me since I am going through a similar situation. However, like George Michaels stated in one of his songs, “You gotta have faith”.

Patriots To Championship Game; Colts & Fans Are Losers

Posted at: 11:14 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Sports and Leisure

This will be very short because I don’t feel well, but I thought I would post it anyway

The Patriots beat Jacksonville in the AFC divisional round to head into the AFC Championship game against the San Diego Chargers. The Colts lost by a big upset today and will not play another game until next August. On the NFC side, the Cowboys lost against the Giants and Green Bay beat the Seahawks to go to their championship game.

What do I mean about Colts fans being losers? During an announcement on the field about young kids ages 9-15 winning a NFL wide contest, the Colts fans booed a 15 year old girl from New Hampshire who was representing the Patriots. It is one thing to boo the Patriots (which is sad since we are amazing), but it is another thing to boo a 15 year old girl who likes the Patriots on television. That shows what type of people Colts fans are and I have lost all respect for those people. However, it came back to bite them when they lost.

GO PATRIOTS!!!! Next Sunday, they will go for 18-0 and a trip to the Super Bowl in February!
