Browser Shots: Developers View Site On Other Browsers

As a web developer, you can only have so many browsers and operating systems running in your workspace. I have been able to get for Windows with IE 6, IE 7, Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2 and Safari. I also have installed, Firefox 2, Safari and IE for MAC. I guess I could have put another box with Linux on it and got some browsers for that, but it would be very time consuming trying to test on all of them.

Luckily, that is a little easier now that Browser Shots came out. It takes 43 different browsers (7 Windows, 3 MAC OSX and 32 Linux) and runs them on each taking a screen shot once it loads. They allow the user to specify screen size, Java Script enabled, Java enabled and flash enabled. You can check back at any point to see what it looks like or you can download all the screen shots for later viewing off line.

This tool is a great item to add to a pre-launch checklist. Since my work (Student City) just soft-launched our new website which I am developing, I figured I would check it out in other browsers before we go completely live with the site.
