Armenian National Anthem

Posted at: 11:44 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Armenia

“Mer Hayrenik” (”Our Fatherland”) is the National Anthem of Armenia which has been in place since 1991 when Armenia became independant. Although the song has been the same since 1918, the lyrics have changed. Currently there is a committee that is deciding if Armenia needs a new Anthem, but until then “Mer Hayrenik” will remain the current National Anthem.

Here are the lyrics to the first verse of the Armenian National Anthem

ARMENIAN LYRICS

Mer Hayrenik, azat ankakh,
Vor aprel eh dareh dar
Yur vortikeh ard kanchoom eh
Azat, ankakh Hayastan
Yur vortikeh ard kanchoom eh
Azat, ankakh Hayastan.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Land of our fathers, free, independent,
Which has endured from age to age.
Its sons and daughters now proclaim
Armenia, sovereign and free.
Its sons and daughters now proclaim
Armenia, sovereign and free.

Below is an audio file of the Armenian National Anthem. Enjoy!

Red Sox Are Champions Of The AL East And Best Record

Josh Beckett Celebrating AL East WinIt’s finally official, Red Sox are champions of the American League East and now own the best record in the AL and in all of the majors. I waited a little bit to post this so that it would include that information!

Last night, before the Red Sox took the field, there were 2 game left for the elimination number of the Yankees from the division, which means a Red Sox win and Yankees loss would clinch. After the Red Sox won, many fans waited around Fenway to see what would happen with the Yankees game. One of my friends was at the game and I went to go meet her outside of Fenway after the game. We headed to Game On to get a few drinks and then headed to Faneuil Hall to enjoy a great win with many Red Sox fans. While we were crossing the street to Quincey Market, we heard a lot of cheers. We then found out that the Yankees had lost and we were the Champions of the AL East. The rest of the night was amazing knowing that the next day, the Yankees score wouldn’t matter. However, there was still the chance at getting the best record in the league.

*Side note about my night: As we were waiting in line at Kitty O’Shea’s, a man walked up to a few of us asking if we could watch his baby while he went inside to drink. Obviously he was kidding, but what made it better was when his wife played along as well. It was a great night out with friends from Plymouth State University (my alma mater).

Today, the Red Sox and Indians took care of that worry when the Red Sox beat the Twins and the Indians lost to the Royals. JD Drew who has been amazing this last month and especially the last 10 games was great again tonight. He got a single, a triple and a 3-run Home Run to take the lead and end up being the winning run. What this means is that the Red Sox will get home field advantage throughout the post season and get to choose their playoff schedule. Tomorrow will be interesting to see who plays because they are now trying to rest players since there is nothing else to play for in the regular season.

Below is an interview with Eric Gagne on the AL East win!

Iranian President States “No homosexuals in Iran”

The other day in a speech at a top US university in NY, asked about hostile treatment against homosexuals, Iranian President Ahmadinejad said that ‘there are no gays in Iran’:

“In Iran, we don’t have homosexuals like in your country. We don’t have that in our country. In Iran, we do not have this phenomenon. I do not know who has told you that we have it.”

I wonder why that is?

Red Sox Win, Yankees Lose, Division Number Down To 3

Yankees Suck
As I stated before, the Red Sox are going to the post season and in 3-5 games, we will find out if they are going in as the division winner. The Red Sox have not won the division since 1995 and the Yankees have been holder of that title since then, however, things might change.

The Yankees elimination number is down to 3 (three) which means that if the Red Sox win any 3 games, they clinch or they win 2 games and the yankees lose 1 game, etc. Basically it means that the next 5 games the Red Sox can not afford to lose, well to a point.

Robot Replay - New Generation Of Usability Testing

Robot Replay is a new way of testing the usability of your site and for generating statistics of your viewers. Once you add the one line of javascript into your code, it captures the users mouse movements and events while the session is active. It is an amazing tool for doing usability and you don’t need the environment that you previously needed. You can now figure out where users want to click and where they should be clicking.

I am in the process of creating a web application that I hope will help me to understand how I should make changes if need be. My work is currently using this tool for our beta site in preparation for the full site launch.

Beckett 20 Game Winner, Red Sox Head To Postseason

Josh Beckett Wins 20
(LAST NIGHT RECAP)
Josh Beckett went only 6 innings against Tampa Bay giving up 1 run but it he was able to walk away with his 20th win of the season which is the first of this year and first time since 2005. He is currently in a fight for the Cy Young award with C.C. Sabathia. Sox1Fan explains that Beckett Engraves Name On Cy Young Award and I agree with him, but ESPN doesn’t because they have Sabathia up by 1.5 points. However, Beckett has been amazing this year and deserves it.

Red Sox Clich Playoff Spot
(TONIGHT)
It doesn’t matter what happens the rest of the season, the Red Sox are headed to the playoffs in October. The division is still on their mind though with a 2.5 game lead over the Yankees, the Red Sox currently have the best record in baseball again with the Angels and Cleavland losing. If they are able to keep the best record in the league, they will be able to choose their playoff schedule which is the first in MLB history.

Go Red Sox!!!

The Republic Of Armenia Could Get It’s Learner’s Permit

Posted at: 1:04 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Armenia, History and Mythology

Note: This obviously only applies to the USA because if you live in Armenia, you can get your permit at the age of 15, but that is besides the point.

On this day in Armenian History 1991, the Republic of Armenia declared it’s freedom from the (former) Soviet Union to be apart of the New Independent States which later became the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). Along with Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, they freed themselves from the control of the Soviet Union and communism.

In Armenia’s first years as a sovereign state, they had to deal with many problems that prevented them from thriving as a country. An earthquake that killed ten’s of thousands of people and the new President banning the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. Once Robert Kocharian became President in 1998, the country started to turn around and is doing very well for a *moderately developed country*.

Happy Independence Day Armenia!!!
