Red Sox Sweep Up The White Sox In An Offensive Blow
One year after the Red Sox won the World Series, the White Sox swept the Red Sox in the ALDS to go on and win their World Series. However, 2 years later, the Red Sox gave it back to them bigger and better.
The last three games were really skewed in favor of the Red Sox. Between Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield and Tavaraz, the pitching staff kept the White Sox in the low values for runs and hits. Beckett and Wakefield are the only two pitchers in the majors with 16 wins and Beckett is only 0.6 points behind JJ Putz for possible the AL CY Young award. If he keeps up his amazing numbers, he will pass Putz to take the CY Young.
Even though the pitching staff was outstanding, the offense is what stole the show this weekend. The Red Sox scored 46 runs in the 4 games compared to the 7 runs by the White Sox. With Home Runs from Ortiz, Youkilis, Varitek, Drew, Pedroia and Kielty (his first home run as a member of the Red Sox), the Red Sox put up great numbers to not just win but give enough insurance that the bullpen got to rest. Since the Sox will be going into NY on Tuesday, with an off day tomorrow, the bullpen will need all the rest they can get. Here are the game numbers for runs scored.
| Fri - 24 | Fri - 24 | Sat - 25 | Sun - 26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| W 11-3 | W 10-1 | W 14-2 | W 11-1 |
I can’t think of a better way to enter the series with the Yankees than with a 7 1/2 (+- .5 tomorrow) lead in the AL East. By the time we leave NY, I hope that lead will be increased to 11 games by Thursday. Go Red Sox, Yankees Suck!!!
