Red Sox vs. Yankees (Game 3) – August 30, 2007

Well, you have can’t win them all, but so far we have won 80 games and have a now 5 game lead over the Yankees. I will be happier once we are back up to a 8 or 9 game lead. Actually, I take that back, I will be ecstatic once we knock the Yankees out of the playoffs and clinch the division. Now, a little recap of today’s game which ended with the Yankees winning 5-0.

Yankees Red Sox

Schilling pitched very well except for two costly hits which were home runs by Robinson Cano. It doesn’t matter how good Schilling, Beckett or Matsuzaka pitched this series, the bats were not there for the Red Sox. They came into this series outscoring the White Sox 46-7 and could not even get 7 runs in the series against the Yankees. If the bats were there, we would be in a different situation.

There was some controversy (I wonder why!) in this game which saw two ejections, one from both sides. First, Terry Francona (Red Sox Manager) was thrown out for arguing a play that included A-Rod and Youkilis. In the top of the 7th, Youk was on his way to third base towards A-Rod who had the ball and instead of throwing to second and then to first to get the double play, A-Rod tried to tag Youk. Well, Kevin got out of the way and went beyond the base path and A-Rod missed him and then threw to first for the out. The umpire originally called him safe, but after A-Rod bitched to the ump like the little winer that he is, they called Youkilis out. Francona was pissed and came running out to argue the call the other way, pushing Hale and Youkilis out the way. After a few minutes, Francona got fired up and they finally ejected him.

Next, in the top of the 9th with the Yankees on top 5-0, their new pitcher Joba Chamberlain was tossed. Joba, who has a 100 mph fast ball, threw two consecutive balls at Youkilis’ head and right as Youk was about to say something to the umpire about it, he was ejected. He had a look of shock like he didn’t understand why he was being thrown. I have a question though, How do you not know that almost hitting a player in the head back to back, 2 innings after he was involved in another controversial play, will get you kicked out of a game. He may be new to this rivalry thing, but if he plans to react like that, this 21 year old is going to be in for a world of pain.

I was listening to Mix 98.5 today on my way to work and they got a call from one of their DJs Sue Brady saying that she was on her way to New York to kick some Yankee Fans Ass because a bunch of women who were extremely drunk dumped beer all over her husbands head (he’s a Red Sox fan) while he was with some clients for work. He just turned around and sat there while they continued to swear and yell at him. I mean, I know that I despise Yankee fans (because they are too dumb to root for a good team), but I would never dump beer on their heads. A beer at Fenway Park costs $8.00 for a 16 oz and $10.00 for a 24 oz beer, why would you want to waste beer by pouring it on someone. First of all, thats a waste of money and beer, second, why would you give your enemy more of something that they (usually) enjoy. Just a side note, but Yankee Fans are rude and dumb.

Clemens Beckett

Even though it is no longer an 8 game lead like we had two days ago, we still have a 6 game lead over the Yankees after the loss today against Roger Clemens. Four years since the last time the Red Sox faced Clemens and he came out strong. You might hate him, but he is an amazing pitcher just like he always was. He went six innings giving up 2 hits and only one run which was a homer by Ortiz.

The Yankees started off the bottom 2nd scoring 3 runs including a throwing error on Beckett. It wasn’t until there were two outs in the 7th that Beckett’s night finally ended giving up a home run to “A”-Rod (“A” for @$$hole), who jumped around like a little 12 year old school girl after they won. I mean honestly A-Rod, you call yourself a man yet you play ball like girl (Slappy McBlueLips). That was a tangent sorry…Youk brought the Red Sox back within a run, but they were not able to pull the trigger at the end and come back to win it.

Red Sox Yankees Recap Game 2

Schilling will be up against Chien-Ming Wang tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm for the final game of the series and the Red Sox need to score early and score often to keep the lead to 7 games in the East.

Yankees Red Sox

It is that time of year again where the Nation faces off against the Evil Empire in “Hell” (Yankee Stadium because that is where the devil lives). Yesterday, the Yankees lost to the Tigers 16-0 making the Red Sox lead in the AL East 8 games, unfortunately for the Red Sox, the difference in game 1 was the former Boston favorite Johnny Damon. The now hated number 18 hit a two run home run off of Daisuke Matsuzaka in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the first inning, the Yankees took a 2-0 lead but the Red Sox came back to tie it. The Yankees then lead by 1 run after Jeter hit a home run in the fifth. It wasn’t until the top of the 7th that Varitek tied it up with his home run to make the score 3-3. However, it ended the scoring after Damon’s home run.

Granted the Red Sox lead is still 7 games in the East, but it would have been nice to take a game 1 win making it a 9 game lead. Tomorrow nights game is Josh Beckett (16-5) against Roger Clemens (5-5). Beckett is tied with two other pitchers for the MLB leaders in wins and teammate Wakefield is one of them. It will be a great matchup tomorrow and hopefully we will be able to take game 2 and 3.

Damon Sucks, Yankees Suck, GO RED SOX!!!

Sea Dog BluePaw (Wild Blueberry Wheat Ale)

Sea Dog BluePawLately, I have really enjoyed Sea Dog’s BluePaw which is a Blueberry Wheat Ale. I tried it when my sister bought it one night when she came home from work and it has become the drink that we buy. Each time we run out, the other person goes and gets another 6-pack.

There are four tests for rating beer: Aroma, Appearance, Taste and Finish (Aftertaste).

Aroma: Your nose can detect so many aromas that you want to make sure to smell it before tasting. As you first pour the beer, you can smell a hint of blueberry which makes sense and it adds to the flavor. Since Bluepaw is an Ale, besides the fact that it is a blueberry flavor, it has a fruity aroma to it because of the warmer fermenting temperatures.

Appearance: To most people, they define their beers by the color. Many say that if you are drinking a dark beer, than you know how to drink beer, but that depends on what type of beer you are wanting to drink and for what reason. BluePaw is a light amber color with semi-clear clarity (it could be the glass thats throwing it off though).

Taste: It has a medium body with a little bit of a tartness to it as it goes down, but very enjoyable. Not really that much more to say except to try it for yourself to understand what I am saying (not a professional beer judge).

Finish: The aftertaste sticks with you for a while, but not too long. It stays just enough so that once it goes away, you want the taste back, which is the point I guess. After you swallow it, there is a nice kick of blueberry that rises back out to your taste buds for an extra treat.

Overall: I am really happy with the brew and the overall taste of it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone to enjoys a nice fruit flavored ale. Zach has created a Black and Blueberry (Black and Tan variation) using BluePaw as one of the ingredients.

Red Sox Sweep Up The White Sox In An Offensive Blow

Posted at: 10:18 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Sports and Leisure

Boston BatsOne year after the Red Sox won the World Series, the White Sox swept the Red Sox in the ALDS to go on and win their World Series. However, 2 years later, the Red Sox gave it back to them bigger and better.

The last three games were really skewed in favor of the Red Sox. Between Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield and Tavaraz, the pitching staff kept the White Sox in the low values for runs and hits. Beckett and Wakefield are the only two pitchers in the majors with 16 wins and Beckett is only 0.6 points behind JJ Putz for possible the AL CY Young award. If he keeps up his amazing numbers, he will pass Putz to take the CY Young.

Even though the pitching staff was outstanding, the offense is what stole the show this weekend. The Red Sox scored 46 runs in the 4 games compared to the 7 runs by the White Sox. With Home Runs from Ortiz, Youkilis, Varitek, Drew, Pedroia and Kielty (his first home run as a member of the Red Sox), the Red Sox put up great numbers to not just win but give enough insurance that the bullpen got to rest. Since the Sox will be going into NY on Tuesday, with an off day tomorrow, the bullpen will need all the rest they can get. Here are the game numbers for runs scored.

Fri – 24 Fri – 24 Sat – 25 Sun – 26
W 11-3 W 10-1 W 14-2 W 11-1

I can’t think of a better way to enter the series with the Yankees than with a 7 1/2 (+- .5 tomorrow) lead in the AL East. By the time we leave NY, I hope that lead will be increased to 11 games by Thursday. Go Red Sox, Yankees Suck!!!

Movie Review: “Superbad”

Posted at: 9:01 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Entertainment and News

large_superbadThis is one of the raunchiest but funniest movies I have ever seen and I recommend it to anyone who can handle a comedy with a lot sex jokes, swearing and drinking. Seth Rogen and Bill Hader were histerical in this movie just like they are in everything else they do. I would not be surprised if this movie ranks in your top 5 movies (if you enjoy that type of comedy).

The film opened at #1 at the U.S. box office, earning $33 million in its opening weekend in 2,948 theaters for an average of $11,211 per theater. As of August 23, the film has grossed $47,105,741 domestically. It was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg when they were in high school. It was produced by Judd Apatow, previously known for directing The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up.

The film follows high school seniors Evan and Seth, two socially-awkward best friends who attempt to lose their virginity before the end of the school year. When opportunity presents itself through a scheduled keg party, the two friends attempt to illegally obtain enough alcohol to satisfy the party-goers. Meanwhile, geeky teenager Fogell spends the night with two reckless police officers, convincing them he is a twenty-five year old Hawaiian organ donor named McLovin.

NSFW: TRAILER UNRATED

The movie stars
Jonah Hill (Knocked Up),
Michael Cera,
Bill Hader (SNL),
Seth Rogen (knocked up and 40 year old virgin),
Emma Stone (Drive – TV Show),
Martha MacIsaac (I Do, They Don’t – TV movie)
and introducing Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fogell/McLovin. Chris was amazing in his first time on screen and really fit the part of a geek but progressed into a bad ass kid that people started to like.

This movie has now surpassed many of my favorite comedic movies that I have ever seen. It ranks right up there with Dumb & Dumber, Super Troopers and Harold & Kumar. However, this movie was a different type of funny than the other movies. The others were so funny because of the randomness but the writing in Superbad was classic.

jQuery 1.1.4 Release == Faster, Better And Prepped

jQuery 1.1.4 Improvements
I have been using jQuery for months now and am loving the way that I can manipulate the DOM easier and cleaner. Each time I use jQuery I learn something new and it becomes more and more a part of my development strategy. If you are interested in learning about jQuery, I highly recommend the book Learning jQuery. It is a great starting book and reference to add to your bookshelf. You can buy it below:

Ajaxian informed me of the new release of jQuery 1.1.4. The new version is a major improvement on the previous version. In addition to the speed increase and bug fixes, they are announcing the release of some new functionality.

.slice(): You may recognize this method name from the .slice() method that exists on JavaScript arrays – you’re in luck because it behaves identically. This is a great method for chopping apart jQuery objects and getting to the elements inside of them.

:has(): This new selector is a replacement for the current way of checking for elements inside of another element (div[p]). You can now use this selector just as you would that particular XPath selector.

Deep, recursive .extend(): This has been a frequently-requested addition to the jQuery .extend() method. This change allows you to deeply merge nested objects (as opposed to having them overwrite each other).

jQuery released 1.1.4 in preparation to launch the new version 1.2 in September. Here is a preview of what’s to come:

  • Selectors
    1. Move from [@attr] to [attr]
    2. :has()
    3. DOM
  • Form/Field Serialization
    1. .wrapAll()
    2. .nextUntil() / .prevUntil()
    3. .andSelf()
    4. .contents()
    5. .hasClass()
  • Ajax
    1. Append .load()
    2. Make .getScript() Work Cross-Domain
  • Events
    1. .ready() waits for .getScript()
    2. Multi-type Events
    3. .clone() Events
    4. Re-work triggered events
  • Effects & Animations
    1. Stop Animations
    2. Queue Control
    3. Animating scrollLeft/scrollTop
    4. Relative Animations
    5. Relative Animations Combine
  • Attributes/CSS
    1. .height()/.width() work for document/window
  • Misc
    1. Wrap jQuery in a Closure
    2. Move Docs to External File
  • To Be Removed
  • Past Considerations
    1. Use XPath for Selectors
    2. Behaviors / Live Query
    3. Element Offset
    4. Variables in .attr()/.css()

His Holiness Karekin II Blessed Me In Central Park: 2001

1700th Anniversary of Armenia

On May 25-28, 2001 I went on a retreat with my church for a sports weekend full of athletic competitions, friends and other activities. That Friday (25th) we went to St. Leon’s Church to celebrate of the 1700th Anniversary of the Armenian Church (301 AD). We were going to be visited by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians (Pope equivalent) for a special mass ceremony called the “Badarak”. As His Holiness was walking down the center isle after the service was over, I was sitting on the edge and had the perfect opportunity to greet him properly. Right as he was passing me, I said, “Asdvadz Oknagan, Vehapar Der” (God Be Your Helper, Your Holiness). He stopped, turned to me, gave me a cross putting his hand on my shoulder, blessed me and my cross and said back “Asdvadz Bahaban” (God Be Your Protector). That was a great moment for me knowing the head of all armenians blessed me personally. It would have been fine if that was the only cool thing that happened that weekend, but it wasn’t.

The next morning (26th) we drove into New York City for a Badarak by His Holiness Karekin II in Central Park. The entire area was filled with people (don’t know how many) to the point where it was hard to move. It was raining that day and everyone had rain coats on becasue they were not going to miss watching His Holiness speak. The Primate of the Diocese of Armenian Church of America (Eastern) Khajag Barsamian spoke for awhile and then introduced His Holiness Karekin II. As the Catholicos got up to the microphone, the rain stopped, the clouds disappeared and the sun came up. Now, some would call that a coincidence, but I like to believe that it was God’s will for Him to stop the rain the second the Catholicos started to speak.

The day got a lot better after the service was over and the Catholicos walked around Central Park blessing the crowd. Again I was sitting on the end of the row and as he passed me, he stopped and put his hand on my shoulder blessing me in front of everyone. All of my friends were jealous that I was blessed twice by the Catholicos in less than 24 hours. He obviously remembered me which was amazing and I was shocked that he did it in Central Park.

Overall, it was an amazing weekend and one that I will remember for a very long time. One month after that weekend, I traveled to Armenia where I was able to visit the Catholicos’ church, “Holy Etchmiadzin“.

Rangers Score 30 Runs In The Win Over Orioles

Rangers Win

You never know what is going to happen when you play a baseball game, you can win or you can lose, but I have never seen this. At the end of the 5th inning, the Rangers were on top of the Orioles 5-3, but an outstanding performance of the Rangers offense changed all that. The Rangers scored 9 times in the top of the 6th making the score 14-3, which is a pretty good score but they were not done yet.

The Orioles bullpen has collapsed a lot this season, like when the Red Sox scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but this is a whole new kind of break down. In the top of the 8th with the score still 14-3, the Rangers piled on 10 more runs bringing the new score to 24-3. However they were not satisfied yet. They added another 6 runs making the final score 30-3. This record is the most runs by one team in a game: On June 29, 1897 The Chicago Colts (now the Cubs) (NL) beat the Lousiville Colonels (NL) 36-7. It is the record for most runs by an American League team since the “modern era” (after 1900). The Rangers got 29 hits with 2 grand slams in their win tonight.

The winning pitcher was Kason Gabbard who was with the Boston Red Sox until the trading deadline when we traded him for Gayne (who is yet to impress Red Sox Nation). Also former Red Sox player David Murphy (2007) went 5/7 scoring each time he was on base. This game will go down as one of the strangest games in all of baseball. It is understandable if the Red Sox (who lead the AL East) scored that many runs, because we have come close to that, but the Rangers…they are 55-70 on the year and 19 games behind the Angels in the AL West. The Rangers scored 5% of their runs this entire season tonight (616 in 2007).

Unfortunately the Red Sox lost tonight 2-1 and at the time of this post, the Yankees were tied with the Angels 1-1.
