Google has decided to make driving much easier since they added real-time traffic indicators. I was driving home today and I checked Google Maps before, I was able to figure out which parts of my drive were going to be slow and not be frustrated. It would be easier and more useful if you had wireless internet in your car or on a blackberry/internet ready phone.

Week 2 (Day 10): Friendship and Love
To Do Today
With your family, talk about how you would define a loving person. Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Then replace the word love in this verse with your name. Does it fit you?
Today’s Prayer
If he dares show his biting teeth,
may the silence of the mouth of our heavenly
Lord shut it.
If he causes desires to gnaw at my soul,
may the nails that pierced the creator hurt him.
If he tries to lead me astray along the path of
unjust thoughts,
may the nails in the feet of our Lord, beyond
understanding, hold him fast.
If he tries to make me drink a vile potion,
may the vinegar mixed with bile that was given
our Savior to drink, embitter him.
If he lures me into eating from the first wood, the tree of the forbidden fruit,
may the terrible spectacle of the second wood seize and completely vanquish him.
If he tries to teach me to rebel against
God?s commandments,
may the nod of the infinite Godhead destroy him.
If he tries to kill me by wounding and persecuting me,
may the lance that pierced the side of the creator of Adam cut him down.
If he envelops me in the pangs of hellish pain,
may the burial shrouds of the Lord who holds all
creation, wrap him up.
If he tricks me into gazing into the abyss of death,
may the living God who survived the stone
tomb kill him.
If he takes joy in my mortal errors,
may he, with his crooked will, die again,
when the immortal God, resurrected in glory,
renews all mortals.
If he is cheered by the prospect of release
from these small bindings after a thousand years,
may he tremble again for the later chains that will
bind him forever
in the place of unremitting torment without end.
If the first blow is bad news for him,
wait till he finds out about the inextinguishable
fires of hell that await him and
his angels at the Last Judgment.
Today’s Scripture (Reading)
Exodus 2:11-22
One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.
He looked this way and that, and seeing no one he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
When he went out the next day, behold, two Hebrews were struggling together; and he said to the man that did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”
He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.”
When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh, and stayed in the land of Mid’ian; and he sat down by a well.
Now the priest of Mid’ian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
When they came to their father Reu’el, he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”
They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
He said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why have you left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”
And Moses was content to dwell with the man, and he gave Moses his daughter Zippo’rah.
She bore a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”

I was blogging the other day and in the middle of writing the article, I hit the browser back button on my IBM Thinkpad Laptop and I lost the page. However it wasn’t all bad because I am using wordpress 2.1 which auto saves my drafts and I only lost a few sentences. I wanted to know if there was a way to turn it off or change it so I went onto IBM’s website and found an application that allows for that. Keyboard Customizer allows me to change the way my keyboard functions to fit my needs. I would highly recommend this application for anyone who has an IBM laptop.

Week 2: Friendship and Love
To Do Today
Discuss with your friends the traits of true friendship. One might be honesty, and you can read Exodus 33:7-11. Another might be loyalty, as described in Proverbs 17:1-28.
Today’s Prayer
For even now, if the evil one in anticipation of the
Day of Judgment
rushes to prepare a prison without escape for me,
I will deliver the Lord?s prayer like a deathblow.
If he tries to deter me as I kneel before my creator,
if he tries to bow my face to the dust,
may my bowing down to God turn him back.
If he tries to torment me with pain,
may the abundant sweat mixed with the blood of our Savior of the world frustrate him.
And if he takes my breath hostage
so I cannot travel the path to goodness,
may the bindings of the creator of the universe free me.
If he forces me to renounce the gifts of the light,
may your patience in the face of mockery by
the enemies of God,
silence them, just as you did.
If he should barrage me with secret arrows,
may the arrowheads from the Father?s glorious
quiver befall him.
If the veil of darkness should make my eye shameless,
may the blow to his blindfolded head
by the creator knock him down.
If he ventures to bind up my firm hands,
may the reed offered by the right hand of the
creator silence him.
If with jeering mockery he toys with me,
may the Almighty?s fortitude in the face of ridicule
mock him back.
If he conjures a spell upon me,
may he be foiled by the Almighty?s slap to his face.
If at twilight he attacks shamelessly under
cover of darkness,
may he be confounded by the radiance of the light of your revelation, Lord.
If in the heat of noonday he thinks he can dry my roots
with scorching blasts of the sun?s furnace,
may he be uprooted and dried by the power of
your sign of light.
If he plots to deprive me of the grace of your breath,
may he be humiliated by the spit, which the Lord of the cherubim endured for me, a sinner.
Today’s Scripture (Reading)
Jeremiah 1:11 – 2:3
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a rod of almond.”
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”
The word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.”
Then the LORD said to me, “Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
For, lo, I am calling all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; and they shall come and every one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
And I will utter my judgments against them, for all their wickedness in forsaking me; they have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.
But you, gird up your loins; arise, and say to them everything that I command you. Do not be dismayed by them, lest I dismay you before them.
And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land.
They will fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, says the LORD, to deliver you.”
The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the LORD, I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
Israel was holy to the LORD, the first fruits of his harvest. All who ate of it became guilty; evil came upon them, says the LORD.”

The episode started with Fayed taking the bombs to the location that Gredenko is at. President Palmer met with the Ambassador and explained to him why Assad is working with the President. Palmer requested that the Ambassador get the support of the Prime Minister to Assad. Jack told Bill about his father’s involvement and wanted him taken into custody. Jack also wanted a helicopter to take him to see Charles Logan who is on house arrest at his retreat. Reid let a man into the bunker who came to kill President Palmer with Assad taking the fall for it. Reid told the man that there was no need to kill Tom and they would take care of it later.
After Reid sent a message to someone on a laptop he left the office and was stopped by someone asking where Tom was. Nadia was wondering if she should pull Morris by the way he was acting, but decided to keep him on under watch. Jack landed at Logan’s retreat to talk with him about Fayed and Gredenko. Logan told Jack he could help him but that he would need to go through back-channel contacts. Logan told Jack that he would speak with the Russian Consulate General.
Jack called President Palmer to request a temporary pass for Logan not to be on house arrest. One of Gredenko’s men brought him a device that the US government was working on and that the taxpayers were paying for. Morris was taken off the project because of the situation but Morris pleaded his case and Bill kept him on even though Nadia objected. Reid just realized that they were about to kill the President of the United States.
Nadia confronted Chloe about her view on Morris and Chloe covered for him but then went to talk to him about the situation. Morris explained why things weren’t complete and Nadia’s problem with him. Charles Logan was getting ready to leave and picked up a US Flag pin and gave himself in the mirror. Bill asked Chloe to . Morris’s sponsor called Chloe to inform her that she hasn’t spoken to Morris in three years. Chloe barged into the men’s bathroom to confront him and he explained what happened. Morris then dumped out his leftover whiskey. President Palmer signed Logan’s release statement and then asked where Tom was. Tom told Reid that he has to stop the man from killing Palmer. Tom told Reid that he was against the plan from the beginning. Reid and the man built the bomb that was going to kill the president made out of an audio recorder. Reid needed to take the bomb to the podium where President Palmer was going to be standing and was given the detonator using a PDA.
Reid looked scared as he headed to the podium and passed people who looked at him weird. He approached the podium and put the bomb in place as the President walked in. Assad thanked the President in advance for what he is doing. The President asked Reid where Tom was since he couldn’t contact him. Tom while tied up turned on the heat to the pipes to get someones attention, but the man stopped him. Reid left the room and went to set off the detonation but some of the fluid leaked and Assad found it before it blew up. He yelled bomb and jumped off the podium but it was too late. President Palmer and Assad were down and hurt and the secret service requested a medical team.

Today’s Prayer
So these are the fruits of my broken and contrite heart
offered in prayer from my wretched tomb shrouded
in darkness.
Establish your blessed word in me indelibly
according to the yearnings of my heart.
For although I speak among the living,
I am dead to you, who are beyond reach,
yet on the day I succumb to death?s destruction,
may I be saved through my faith in your
all-powerful orders.
Now, I pray you, Lord Jesus Christ,
look upon me with compassion
and do not let me be the cohort of Satan.
At the time of my pitiful burial, in the lifeless sepulchre,
echoing with death, attend to the voice of my sighing
heart lifted in reconciliation,
Lord, our sole benefactor, who cherishes our spirits,
almighty God, who loves mankind.
May your kind Spirit dwell with me,
shedding light upon me in the darkness.
May the venerated, life-giving relics of your passion
stay with me,
like a treasure deposited with you,
so they may bestow the gift of renewed life.
With these inexhaustible weapons I am equipped
as stones of a slingshot made of the spirit,
to ward off the legions of evil.
With you on my side Lord,
the battle waged against me shall be checked,
when enemies rise up and attack me,
thinking that the citadel has no troops,
and the alarms make no sounds.
But I have you, Lord, as my eternal keeper
who slumbers not, nor sleeps.
Today’s Scripture (Reading)
1 Samuel 1:1-23
There was a certain man of Ramatha’im-zo’phim of the hill country of E’phraim, whose name was Elka’nah the son of Jero’ham, son of Eli’hu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an E’phraimite.
He had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Penin’nah. And Penin’nah had children, but Hannah had no children.
Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phin’ehas, were priests of the LORD.
On the day when Elka’nah sacrificed, he would give portions to Penin’nah his wife and to all her sons and daughters;
and, although he loved Hannah, he would give Hannah only one portion, because the LORD had closed her womb.
And her rival used to provoke her sorely, to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb.
So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat.
And Elka’nah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”
After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly.
And she vowed a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy maidservant, and remember me, and not forget thy maidservant, but wilt give to thy maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli observed her mouth.
Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard; therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman.
And Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you.”
But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman sorely troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD.
Do not regard your maidservant as a base woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.”
Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have made to him.”
And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.
They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elka’nah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her;
and in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked him of the LORD.”
And the man Elka’nah and all his house went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and to pay his vow.
But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “As soon as the child is weaned, I will bring him, that he may appear in the presence of the LORD, and abide there for ever.”
Elka’nah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you, wait until you have weaned him; only, may the LORD establish his word.” So the woman remained and nursed her son, until she weaned him.

Today’s Prayer
Do not hold a grudge against me, the image of death.
Do not berate my breathless figure.
Do not strike me while I am suffering the
pangs of death.
Do not deal harshly with the cracked clay vessel
of my existence.
Do not double your wrath: I am crushed by
your sentence.
Do not condemn to destruction my already
dilapidated structure.
Do not throw stones at me: I am already like a dead dog.
Do not fulminate at me sternly: I am like a
crushed flea.
Do not roar at me mightily, as if upon some braggart:
I am lower than dirt.
Do not summon me for trial by ordeal:
I am but cast away ash.
Do not view me, who am but vanishing dust,
as your opponent.
Do not deem me, who am loathsome sediment,
to be your foe.
Do not ward me off, a contemptible abomination,
as if I am a warrior.
Do not set me aside as material for hell:
I am worthless refuse.
Do not scold me again, who by this multitude of
words already
has been admonished many times over.
Today’s Scripture (Reading)
Luke 4:43 – 5:11
but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.”
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
While the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennes’aret.
And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”
And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking,
they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken;
and so also were James and John, sons of Zeb’edee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men.”
And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
Daily Prayer and Scripture taken from the Armenian Church website
Sunday of the Expulsion – 2nd Sunday Card
“O Lord, who first gave the law of holy abstinence to Adam in paradise where he broke it by tasting the fruit and thereby tasting the bitterness of sin and death, grant us that we may taste the sweetness of Your commandments. We have been struck in our souls by the Enemy with wounds of sin, and we need You, the lover of man; to relieve our pain; therefore O Christ who loves man, heal us.” (Sharagan for the Second Sunday.)
On the Sunday of the Expulsion from the Garden we encounter our own great sin: pride. Mankind (Adam and Eve) had all they needed in the Garden; their lives with God were complete. God asked only that they love Him, and obey Him as all sensible creatures would obey a loving Creator, since the Creator knows His creatures and their needs better than they themselves do. But in His love God made us free, and the tree from which Adam and Eve ate represents the free choice all of us must make.
We can love God and acknowledge Him as the Creator on whom we depend. Or in pride we can say, “I don’t need God. I am my own lord!” And Satan (the serpent) tempts us by appealing to our pride. “Eat and by eating become like God,” he says. So we turn from God’s Lordship and instead set ourselves up as gods.
But then we find out: man by himself is weak, and without God can find only sin, shame, and death. So man, having chosen not to be with God, is sent from the garden into the hard world where pride reigns. It is a world where other hungers, like Adam’s hunger for lordship, assail man.
Yet God’s love never deserts us, and even in our stupid pride His promise is made, His plan of salvation begun. Another will come, and be tempted by Satan to eat. And He will answer that man does not live by bread alone, but by God and God’s commands. This other, Christ, the “new Adam,” will not succumb to the sin of pride as Adam did before.
During Lent we fast with Christ, not to punish ourselves but restore ourselves to dependence on God and not on bread alone. God Himself, becoming man in the person of Christ, shows us the way to this restoration.
The hunger our pride creates is truly devilish, for it can, never be satisfied. But the hunger for God which we experience with Christ during Lent will be filled to overflowing: that is the promise that carries on from the garden to the cross to the empty tomb to our lives this minute.
The day’s readings (Wisdom 5:1-8, Baruch 3:31-4:4, Romans 8:28-39, John 10: 11-16) tell us of that promise which even persecution and massacre cannot overcome.
