Google IG makes RSS feeds a plus

Google IG with its tabbing capabilities has become my homepage because it allows me to separate my blogs and news, my important feeds, and other feeds, so that I can view them by specific needs.

Now yesterday I noticed that Google had added plus signs next to all of the feeds. The phrase “Curiosity Killed The Cat” came to mind, but not in this case. The plus sign gives you the ability to get a preview of the post without clicking on the link. It will give you a little more of an indication as to how interesting the article looks.

My love for Google continues to grow, along with their ideas and development. Keep up the good work Google.

24 Day 6: 10am - 11am

Categories: Entertainment and News

Possible Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

With the nuclear weapon detonated in Valencia killing all within a 1 mile radius, the terrorists still had planned on detonating 4 more nuclear bombs. However, since the device that configures the bomb was blown up with the blast, it will be interesting to see who they will try to get to recreate it.

The President and the joint chiefs were moved down to the White House bunker for protection. While they were down there, President Palmer told his assistant to set up a press conference to address the nation about the nuclear bomb in Valencia. Jack was asked by a man who was in a helicopter crash to help his friend stuck inside.

One of the Admirals voiced concerns about the state of the American people and that they should bomb the noted countries back to the stone age, however, the President disagreed. Assad was brought to CTU to be questioned about Fayed and the terrorist attacks. Assad gave the name of a Russian General that Fayed may have called about the bombs. CTU checked on the name and other contacts in the LA area. One name shot to the top of the list, Jack’s father, Philip Bauer. Jack wanted to go and talk with his father in person about his relationship with the Russian. When he called to see if he was home, Jack found out that he wasn’t. Jack got his brothers address to see if he could find his father. It turns out that Jack’s brother is actually Graham (Day 5) who was the leader of the “blue tooth gang” and co-conspirator with Former President Logan. Walid Al-Rezani, advocate for American-Islamic relations, got one of the prisoners to open up to him so the FBI wired him so that they will be able to record the prisoners conversations.

President Palmer spent time setting up how he is going to address the nation and coming up with a speech. Tom wanted to put fear in the people but the President disagreed. After helping CTU with information, Assad was sent to Washington. Walid got in with the prisoners and with the wire on, he was trying to get information about Fayed. Jack went to visit Graham to get information about their father. Jack punched Graham, tied him to a chair and started strangling him. Meanwhile, President Palmer addressed the nation about the nuclear attacks. Jack asked for the truth about their father’s location and when Graham didn’t give Jack the answer he wanted, he put a plastic bag over his head and suffocated him.

Trot Nixon signs with the Cleveland Indians

33-46135-FIn the last 10 years and almost 1000 games with the Boston Red Sox, Trot Nixon became a very big name and number in the Red Sox organization. Number 7 controlled the right field and the “Pesky Pole” for the longest time in Red Sox history, however, that is no longer the case. On Friday, Trot Nixon signed a 1 year deal with the Cleveland Indians for 3 million dollars. He is no longer number 7 though he will be number 33 which was Trot’s High School baseball number.

A hardnosed player who isn’t afraid to run into walls or dive for balls, Nixon has exposed his body to injury and paid the price. He missed all but 48 games of the ‘04 season because of a herniated disk in his back and a strained left quadriceps, a month of ‘05 because of a left oblique muscle strain and more than a month of ‘06 because of a right biceps strain and ensuing staph infection on his elbow. “Sometimes you run into those situations,” Nixon said. “For any hitter, the time you spend away from the game, batting practice and facing live pitching, you’re going to lose a little bit.”

And while he acknowledges that he needs to be careful to prevent further injury, Nixon said it simply wouldn’t be his nature or his style to play the game without the tenacity that has led to those bangups. “I can’t change the way I play,” he said. “The ability that God has given me and the motivation to develop from my high school years to now… it’s hard to turn that off.”

“Wikia” is Webtacular

Categories: Entertainment and News, Tech and Web

wikiaFounded in 2004 by Wikipedia owner Jimmy Wales as Wikicities, it’s an online community of web pages. It was renamed Wikia in March of 2006, the name Wikicities has often caused confusion, with many people believing it was a site for city guides rather than wikis about any topic. When the change was made people wanted to fund the project.

Wikia covers a broad range of topics; most widely-scoped community projects are accepted, with the exception of ideas that compete with the Wikimedia projects, which the Wikia founders are heavily involved in. Wikia requires all content to be licensed under one of many free content licences, such as the Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution-Sharealike licences or the GNU Free Documentation License. Wikia also has some crossover with Wikipedia, with the communities of Wikia being linked on the relevant Wikipedia article in many cases.

I heard about Wikia when I stumbled upon the site for the TV Show 24. I was able to get user information by users of the site. For Instance, they had the time line for how the show plays out over months and years but they also had a time line based off of flaws in the show meaning dates on IDs and other interesting facts that most people don’t pick up on and therefore don’t know. Check one out for yourself…

MySQL.com says Armenia is located in Europe

Posted at: 1:32 pm by Timothy Haroutunian
Categories: Armenia, Rants and Randomness, Tech and Web

UPDATE: I wanted to look up the exact location and verify it in other places and I have to say that the location of Armenia is now debatable in my opinion. It is very interesting considering that Armenia is a part of the former Soviet Union which was in Asia, but I now have to take back my statement and sit on the fence with this comment for a while.

(from Wikipedia) The Geographic Web Site World Atlas places Armenia in Europe, as do most European governments and sources, such as the BBC; conversely, the UN classification of world regions places Armenia in Western Asia as does the CIA World Factbook. The government of the United Kingdom classifies Armenia within Europe:[1]. Most importantly, the Armenian government and the general population self-identify as European and a part of Europe.[2]. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vartan Oskanian reiterated recently that: Armenia is Europe. This is a fact, it’s not a response to a question.:[3]. Mr Torben Holtze head of the European Commission’s representation in Armenia and Georgia, Ambassador of the European Union with residence in Tbilisi stated recently that: As a matter of principle Armenia is a European country

As I was working on setting up our test server at work, I realized that I needed a newer version of the mySQL JDBC Connector for the application to work. I went to mysql development website and I found the link to download it. As I was scrolling to the United States, I noticed that Armenia was directly below the US on the list. However, it was under the section titled Europe.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Armenia is NOT in Europe but in Asia. According to the fact book produced by the CIA, Armenia is located in Southwestern Asia, east of Turkey. In fact, the only countries that they listed from Asia were Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.

I think it is funny that people assume that Armenia is in Europe and do not even question the location or check to see where it is. On the other hand, some people do not know that there is a country called Armenia.

Check it out for yourself, MySQL JDBC Connector

Download Windows Vista Online

Posted at: 11:52 pm by Timothy Haroutunian

Windows-VistaOf course if they are downloading it, it will be online but others will debate that statement…

Microsoft announced that they will be releasing Windows Vista for download. A relatively low number of computer users are likely to get Vista by downloading it from the Internet. But the mere availability indicates that Microsoft is fiddling with distribution methods for the extremely profitable franchise at the core of its business.

The download program, being announced late Wednesday will also include the Office 2007 line of software when both are released for consumers Jan. 30. At least initially, the huge downloads will be available in North America only.

Bill Mannion, director of consumer marketing for Windows, called these three steps part of an overall effort “to give more flexibility to end users.”

Here’s how that will work. For consumers, Vista will come in four flavors, Home Basic, which retails for $199, Home Premium ($239) Business ($299) and Ultimate ($399). Though consumers will pick one version when they buy a computer, higher versions will be embedded on the machine’s hard drive or packaged on discs that come with it.

Anyone who wants to move up the chain — from Home Basic to Home Premium for another $79, Home Basic to Ultimate ($199), Home Premium to Ultimate ($159), or Business to Ultimate ($139) — will be able to click a new “Windows Anytime Upgrade” function, pay for the upgrade online and then receive a coded license “key” that will unlock the more expensive edition.

24 Day 6: 8am - 9am/9am - 10am

Possible Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Milo - 24 Season 6Jack and Assad meet up and follow the other associate that will hopefully lead them to Fayed. Fayed then called President Palmer telling him his demands which were to put 100 “Freedom Fighters” on a non military plane to head out of the country. Jack calls CTU to get satellite access.

Amar took Scott and his family hostage after killing the neighbor, Amar told Scott’s father to take the package to the drop location and he will receive further instructions. Meanwhile, Jack and Curtis follow Assad and the terrorist hoping to find Fayed. The terrorist was hit and instead of talking, he killed himself with a grenade.

Since they couldn’t get a lead to Fayed, President Palmer had to send the 100 men in the air. As they were loading the plane and about to take off, they found the connection to Fayed. Hasan Numair, the terrorist they were trying to release him so that he will use a nuclear device. They tried to get him off, however, he was hiding in the bus bathroom and one of the guards freed him.

Curtis has a problem working with Assad and Jack calls CTU to do a background check on them. Hasan Numair showed up with Fayed and they started setting up the nuclear weapon. President Palmer comes to an agreement with Assad and brings him into the team. Ray Wallace brought the device to Fayed that was given to him by Amar. Ray’s wife called the police and they got him in touch with Jack Baur who she informed about the situation.

Jack and Curtis take a team to the Wallace house where Amar is keeping Scott. They bust down the door just as Amar was going to kill Scott and they shot Amar. They wanted him alive so they could get the address of where Ray took the device. Scott told Jack what he knew about the location and they sent a team over there.

They formed an attack team to go and take the nuclear device. Chloe found the connection between Assad and Curtis. Jack found Curtis about to kill Assad and Jack begged Curtis to let Assad go. Curtis couldn’t do that and Jack shot him in the neck and killed him. Jack then started to cry and told Bill that he couldn’t do it anymore. The attack team went in shooting and the the terrorist was able to set off the nuclear bomb. The mushroom cloud formed as Jack watched the cloud go up since he wasn’t that far away. The President told every branch that they have the full backing of United States resources. However, that is not the end…there are four more bombs ready to be detonated.

24 Day 6: 6am - 7am/7am - 8am

Possible Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

jack_baur_hurtThe new season of 24 started today and the first two hours were very exciting. After terrorists of middle eastern decent attacked major cities all over the country, CTU got a call from Abu Fayed who worked for Hamri Al-Assad, and said that he would give the location of Assad if he was given Jack Baur. At the end of Season 5, Jack was taken by the Chinese to a camp to be beaten. Wayne Palmer, President of the United States and former President David Palmer’s brother, made a deal with the Chinese Government to release Jack to them. Once CTU recovered Jack, Bill Buchanan asked him to sacrifice himself and die so that the bombs will stop.

When they gave Jack to the terrorists, they took him to an undisclosed location that CTU could not track. As Fayed was torturing Jack, they thought he was unconscious and gave the coordinates to Assad’s location. After he hung up, Fayed informed Jack that he was the man in charge of the bombings not Assad. Jack pretended to be dead and bit one of the terrorists until he died. He escaped and called CTU to tell them to call off the bombing of Assad’s house. President Palmer did not listen to Jack and continued the attack.

Meanwhile, a family is helping a neighbor by allowing him to stay at their house because the FBI thinks that his father is a terrorist. However, it turns out that Ahmed Amar (Kal Penn) is in fact the terrorist. He is asked to deliver a package by Fayed. When another neighbor tries to attack him, he pulls out a gun and kills him. Then takes his “friend” Scott Wallace hostage and holds a gun to his chest. That is all that we know right now about Ahmed Amar.

Jack went to the location of where Assad was hiding to convince him to leave the house. Jack and Assad get out of the house right as it is blown up and survive. They get a lead from one of Fayed’s associates that there is going to be a bombing on the metro very soon. Jack and Assad go to the metro to find the suicide bomber and Jack follows him on the train. As he is going to blowup the train, Jack stops him and finally kicks him out of the back and he blows up which saves many lives.

As the episode ends, CTU informs President Palmer that it was Fayed behind the bombings and that Jack was right. Assad then calls Jack and heads towards him by Union Station and Jack tells him to follow the other bomber because it is their only lead to Fayed.

Episodes Three and Four will air tomorrow night at 8pm on Fox - Check it out
