Gerald Ford

Gerald Rudolph Ford (July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was the 38th President (1974–1977) and 40th Vice President (1973–1974) of the United States. He was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and upon succession to the presidency, became the only person to hold that office without having been elected either president or vice president. Prior to becoming vice president, he served for over eight years as the Republican Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. Ford was the longest-lived president.

Ford died of heart failure at the age of 93 on December 26, 2006 at 6:45 p.m Pacific Standard Time at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. Mrs. Ford and their three sons, who had celebrated Christmas the day before at the home, were at Ford’s bedside when he died. No local clergy were present, but one of Ford’s sons is a minister and performed last rites. At 8:49 p.m., Ford’s wife, Betty, issued a statement that confirmed his death.

Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband’s office in Rancho Mirage:
“My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age. His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country.”

On the first day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
A drunk who drove into a tree

My true love gave to me
Two shattered skulls
And a drunk who drove into a tree….

On the third day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Three O.D.’s

On the fourth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Four beaten wives

Merry Christmas

Santa ClausOur society has forgotten what Christmas is all about. It has turned into a time to receive gifts and eat food. For little children it is about gifts, time off from school, Santa Claus and his Reindeer. What about the true spirit of Christmas? Celebrating the birth of Christ and the magic that occurred. Spending time with your family and the ones who love you?

Baby_Jesus_MaryThe Nativity refers to the birth of Jesus. According to biblical accounts, Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph, in the city of Bethlehem. The birth took place in a stable, surrounded by farm animals, and the infant Jesus was laid in a manger. Shepherds from the fields surrounding Bethlehem were told of the birth by an angel, and were the first to see the child. Christians believe that the birth of Jesus fulfilled many prophecies made hundreds of years before his birth. This is one of my favorite Christmas Songs:

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise.
Join the triumph of the skies.
With th’angelic hosts proclaim
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the new-born King!

This is the other of my favorite Christmas songs:

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, and folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe (will) help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa’s on his way, He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother’s child is gonna spy to see if reindeer really know how to fly
And so I’m offering this simple phrase, to kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said, many times, many ways: “Merry Christmas to you.”

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Patriots Win AFC East Division

Patriots LogoThe Patriots are going to the NFL Playoffs again as the AFC East Division Champions after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21 in a very close game. This is their fourth straight AFC East Division Win and fifth in the past six years.

While the Patriots looked the better team throughout most of this contest, a desperate Jaguars team made things close in the end. It took a fumble recovery by Rodney Harrison, who returned to action from his injury earlier this season, to seal the win late in the fourth quarter.

Tom Brady spread the ball all over the field and to 10 different receivers en route to 249 yards passing on 39 attempts and 28 completions. His main target was Dave Thomas who had a career day with 5 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.

The Patriots take on Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans next week for the final regular season game.
