There has been debates between passwords and biometrics for which is more secure, more reliable and more useful. Well it all depends on what your purpose is for needing the security. For example, Lets say you own a small construction company that only works on building barns in Nebraska, your security risk is not that high and a password will do fine. However, what if you were head of IT for CTU (fictional Counter-Terrorist Unit on the TV show 24) and the lives of millions of people depend on the information that is stored on the servers you control. How do you think a password would handle in a situation like that.
Many people have trouble remembering their passwords so they write them down and make the concept of a password useless. That is why passwords do not cut it for security and you need to step it up to biometrics. Biometrics from Greek: bios = “life” and metron = “measure” is used to measure and analyze human physical and behavioral characteristics for authentication purposes. Here is a list of biometric examples.
The figure above compares several biometrics with each other against seven categories:
* Universality describes how commonly a biometric is found in each individual.
* Uniqueness is how well the biometric separates one individual from another.
* Permanence measures how well a biometric resists aging.
* Collectability explains how easy it is to acquire a biometric for measurement.
* Performance indicates the accuracy, speed, and robustness of the system capturing the biometric.
* Acceptability indicates the degree of approval of a technology by the public in everyday life.
* Circumvention is how easy it is to fool the authentication system.
Yun ranks each biometric based on the categories as being either low, medium, or high. A low ranking indicates poor performance in the evaluation criterion whereas a high ranking indicates a very good performance.
Turkey’s most famous writer has just been awarded the Nobel Literature Prize for speaking out about the Armenian Genocide. Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish native, questioned his country’s history and the way that the Ottoman Empire forcefully removed 1.5 Million Armenians.
He was charged with embarrassing his country and was in a year long trial for those charges. His books were burned, his pictures shredded and his life was threatened. He was considered a social outcast instead of a best selling novelist. The Turks however deny that the Genocide ever happened. Sarkis Charcasian’s parents were a few of the survivors of the death marches but with a horrible story to tell.
“Before me, she had another child…she gave birth towards early morning. In the morning the gendarmerie came and said to remove the tents. My father came out of the tent and said, ‘Well look, my wife gave birth – could we start a bit later so she can rest?’ He hit my father with a whip and said, ‘We are trying to wipe out your roots! Are you still reproducing?’ He would have been my elder brother, but he died”
It is recognized by most historians and governments around the world, except for Turkey where they have not talked about it in 90 years. The Turkish government thinks that he is trying to twist history and gain attention from the Europe and get nominated for a Nobel Prize. Their official stance is that the Armenians sided with Russia in World War I and they were the enemy and the Armenians killed just as many Turks.

Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle died in an airplane accident in New York City on Wednesday afternoon when a plane he was piloting crashed into a 50-story building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
As a Red Sox fan I always wish that bad things will happen to the Yankees, but I always think of that as baseball bad luck. No matter how intense the rivalry gets and how much I think the Yankees Suck, death is something…it is terrible.
Initially, the crash sparked fears throughout New York, as the accident occurred just a few miles north of the World Trade Center. The FBI and the Dept. of Homeland Security quickly said there was no evidence it was anything but an accident. Nevertheless, within 10 minutes of the crash, fighter jets were over several cities, including New York, Washington, Detroit, Los Angeles and Seattle, Pentagon officials said.
