I picked my for next years PACE Board today. I am really excited about it because I feel that it is a very strong board and together we will give the students of Plymouth State University the entertainment they deserve. It was a very tough making the decision as who would get the positions that they wanted, but it wasn’t personal. I really hope that the people who did not make it on the board understand that I had to do what was best for the organization and to uphold the mission statement to the best of our ability.
Our Mission: As the Programming Board of the Plymouth State University Student Body, it is our intent to remain responsive to student attitudes, interests, and needs; to provide programs which compliment, reflect, and respond to those interests and needs; and to contribute to the overall development of the members of the Campus Community.

My Nephew came home from the hospital today and he is doing amazing. He is 4lbs 5oz and when he was born he was 3lbs 7oz. He is still 4 weeks early, but he is very strong and breathing very well. His heartrate hasn’t dropped in about a week which is one of the biggest changes.

“It is being reported on the Vonage Forums that last month when Loren Veltkamp’s Chanhassen, Minnesota home caught on fire, he immediately called 9-1-1 using Vonage. Unfortunately, Vonage put him on hold, causing a delay in the response from emergency workers. By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had become a five-alarm blaze. The house was a total loss.”

That is a serious problem that someone will most likely be “fired” for, NO PUN INTENDED. Vonage is still working out the bugs in their system. When phones were first used, they didn’t get it right the first time. Over time Vonage will get it, lets just hope that there is not a problem with me.

Researchers at the Amsterdam’s Free University created a radio frequency identity (RFID) chip infected with a virus to prove that RFID systems are vulnerable despite the extremely low memory capacity on the cheap chips.
The problem is that an infected RFID tag, which is read wirelessly when it passes through a scanning gate, can upset the database that processes the information on the chip, says the study by Melanie Rieback, Bruno Crispo and Andrew Tanenbaum.
They are going to adding RFID tags to US Passports, which contain all of our personal private information, and these RFID tags have the chance at being infected with viruses that can publish the so called “private” information to the web or to someone.
I am all about technology, but there are somethings that we should think more about. We will see how this turns out.

So after being on PACE for the past 4 years, we had elections tonight and I was chosen as the New President of PACE for the 2006-2007 school year. I am so excited about next year for all the different opportunities to come.
Good Evening,
Once upon a time there was a princess….o wait…I figured it worked for Danielle, why not try it.
When I started college, what is it now 20 years ago; I wanted to do something that would impact Plymouth State in a positive way, for instance win the Nobel Prize. Well I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon, but the next best thing was PACE.
This organization has been the driving force behind student planned events since 1970 something and has continued to flourish as the student population grows each year. As a part of PACE, we have been given the opportunity to impact not only the student body, but the University as well.
For those of you who are not familiar with what I have done over the past 4 years, here is a brief overview. When I first joined PACE at the student activities fair my freshman year, I wanted to be part of every committee, but focus on marketing. After about a week of being a committee member, the publicity chair resigned and I was asked to be the new chair. Then the VP of marketing resigned along with the promotions chair putting me in charge of marketing with help from the current president. The next two years I was in charge of the PACE website which I completely redesigned and this past year we won best student designed website at the NACA Northeast Conference.
One year ago I stood before the board stating that I was going to expand my horizons and no longer be the technology chair. Well as you all know, this past year I was in charge of Snow Daze. Programming the events for the week was one of the most exciting and nerve-racking 5 months, mainly because Winter Carnival week had never reached its highest potential over the years. Now I realize that I shouldn’t have been panicking planning the week, but since it was my first time in a position like this and the future of the week long event depended my every decision I made, it was an interesting experience
I don’t know if anyone knows the etymology of the word president, a “president” is one who presides, who sits in leadership. Originally, the term usually referred to the presiding officer of a ceremony or meeting; but today it most commonly refers to an official with executive powers. Now, I don’t believe that to be true in most organizations, especially this one. The president may be officially in charge of the organization, but they do not make all the decisions. The president has a board that he/she relies on to help make decisions that will better the group. The president and the members of the board need to work together and support each other to strengthen the organization as a whole.
One time, when I was in charge of Snow Daze, I was very ill with the flu and couldn’t even think straight. Remember it was during the week of Snow Daze and I thought how awful it was that I would get sick the one week that was the most important to me in all the years that I have been with PACE. But what I do remember, was the people who helped me the most when I needed it, the people who put their own personal agendas aside to make sure that Snow Daze ran absolutely amazing. The people who would tell me during the meetings in weeks prior that I planned a great set of events and then told me to go home when I wasn’t feeling well, saying that they had everything covered. That shows the intensity of a board and what working together really means and it is that spirit of cooperation that I want to bring to PACE as president.
One of the most important lessons that I have learned is that every time one door closes, another one opens. Last year when I did not get elected president, a door closed, but another one opened. The door that opened, gave me the opportunity to understand the background behind programming an event to the caliber like Snow Daze. To really appreciate all the hard work that each and every one of us puts forth to make this organization one that impacts others. Which ever door is the next to open for me, I will work my hardest to fulfill that position to the best of my ability and with the dedication that I have shown over the past 4 years.
Thank you to everyone on the board who voted for me and believes in me to run the organization. You all rock and for everyone that is graduating, PACE will miss you greatly and you are always welcome back

Matt commented on my RFID, Sci-Fi or Reality? Post and apparently they approved to allow RFID tags in US Passports. They are starting out putting RFID in US diplomats passports and in October they plan to give it to everyone.
I don’t know what is going to happen with that one, but I do know is that people should buy/renew their passports now.

The Boston Bruins have acquired centers Marty Reasoner and Yan Stastny in addition to a second round draft pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for left wing Sergei Samsonov.
“Marty is an excellent playmaker and we were looking to increase our opportunities to score,” said O’Connell. “We have always considered Yan to be a strong prospect and we are happy to have him return to our organization.”
I do not care what the Bruins have to say, they should not have got rid of Sammy because he is the BEST player on the team.
That is all I have to say

Patriots cut ties with 12-year veteran Willie McGinest who has been one of the best linebackers the patriots have ever seen in the organization.
McGinest has played in 171 games with 146 starts in the 12 seasons since the Patriots chose him with the fourth overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 1996 and 2003 seasons. McGinest ranks third on the Patriots all-time sacks list with 78 career sacks, trailing only Andre Tippett (100) and Julius Adams (79.5). McGinest’s 78 sacks are tied for the most among active NFL linebackers.
I really hope that they negotiate with Willie because he will be missed very much by the fans. He consistanly makes key plays when needed especially during the playoffs.
Additionally, McGinest is the NFL’s all-time leader with 16 career playoff sacks and set the NFL’s single-game postseason record with 4.5 sacks in a playoff victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Jan. 7, 2006. He has been a member of eight Patriots playoff teams and has appeared in a team-record 18 postseason games. McGinest finished the 2005 season second on the team with six sacks.

“Computer terrorist” Kevin Mitnick is one of the world’s most famous computer hackers and became a cause celebre after breaking into networks and stealing software at companies including Sun Microsystems and Motorola.
He can find George Bush senior’s social security number and Leonardo DiCaprio’s mother’s maiden name in under 15 seconds, and led the FBI on a three-year manhunt as he hacked his way into the world’s biggest firms.
Hackers by definition are not out to destroy data, but for the excitment of actually accessing data they dont have access to. Crackers on the other hand, they are out to use data for evil
He is now teaching others how to not get hacked by people like him. He uses basic human flaws to get that information he needs to access these companies. “Social engineering” is the term that is used in the computer world for this kind of trickery. The Hacker calls up a company and says they are from the IT dept and tells them that there is a problem with their personal information and to verify who they are, they need the employees username and password. Most of the people are going to trust them and give out the information…it is that easy.
You need to be careful about who you give what information to because they may use it for. Don’t give your private information to anyone on the phone or in email unless they have been verified as the person they say they are.
